There is a step during the install process that rids the vinyl of its "memory" effect. Also, certain techniques during install (like stripping parts off first to wrap around the edges) will elminate such.

I noticed the mx5 wrapped in Matt black vinyl at Gordon on day a few weeks and looked the website up. Although I havnt approached the company for materials or work, I must say the vehicle looked awesome. Great eye catcher

Re: Cost of vinyl wrap??
how much would it be to do a hard top?
i think that would be the easiest (and most common) part to need to wrap for us owners, who buy one thats not the right colour.

Next question is....how much weight will it add to the car if you covered an entire hardtop with the wrap?

Not much.
The material has the thickness and weight similar to RTA labels.
Like silver vinyl duct tape.
Lighter than cloth Gaffer tape, I think.
So not much.

Re: Cost of vinyl wrap??
I it difficult to wrap? I've resprayed my hard top black now so I guess this isn't so much for me anymore. Though we didn't use flex aid or anything on it so i'm a little worried about how long it will last lol. So maybe down the line this might be an option for me

Mmmm.....
Hard question to answer. Depends if you have had wrapping experience.
It would be more difficult to wrap than a roof of a sedan due to the curvature.

I've seen both the mx5 and gtr in person. Looks awesome!! And 450 for the hardtop sounds cheap considering the quality!!

Re: Cost of vinyl wrap??
Dude up to 5kg is nothing for a street car... If you're that concerned about weight, start dieting. I understand the performance gains and appreciate the Colin Chapman mentality but when you aren't gunning for laptimes and daily drive the car, being anal over weight is kinda unnecessary.
Oh and make no mistake, I'm not having a dig at you Wun!!!! My comment is relevant to the vinyl wrap So if you read this the wrong way, I'm not attacking you!!!!

Is vinyl wrap a good candidate for disguising hail damage?
A hail damaged bonnet, especially, is not repairable by conventional panel beating.
I am also not a fan of the matt finish. Is there a glossy C/f finish available?
