I'm jealous of your knowledge, tech skill, garage, spare time and spare cash
Fantastic rebuild, I don't know the story behind the car but I kind of gleamed it from the posts and I'm sure the old owner would be very happy.
I'm trying to do a similar thing with my brother's old car which he gave to me for Christmas. The lil NA6 is in a poor state but a good base to bring back to it's former zippy self. (see it in the General chat under "Soon to be NA6 owner")

Hey all,
Couple of photos of the beasty now with his motor back in, rebuilt but unfortunately not to the extent it was going to be. The floods claimed everything at the engine shop and so we ended up doing only what was required rebore and a few other little tricks. The compression is now at 13.6 to 1 static so once tuned we should make some good HP. One thing I do know now is that the diff certainly works, scared the crap outa me through a roundabout, 1.6 don't do that in 3rd gear. Trying to decide if I'll paint the screen surround white or repaint the top red, bloody decisions decisions By the way how close does your DB bar go towards the roof, mine seems to touch it??? Strange.
Olleygt, mate, take your time, think before you act and try and find some of that magical stuff we all want (money) and before you know it you'll be where you want to be. It just takes time. If you need advise or encouragement this place has lots to offer and the Brissy blokes and girls are a good informative and helpful bunch.
Notice the additives in the piccy???
Terry

My BD rollbar touches the hardtop and soft-top. They've managed to rub off a bit of the powdercoat in the outer corners of the rollbar. It seems there is a bit of variability in the rollbar sizing or in the way they're fitted perhaps.

Thanks Bryan,
I wasn't sure if the bar had been spaced up but couldn't see anywhere that it had been, and with the bar padding in place it made putting the softtop up an absolute PITA.
I'll trim down the padding when I fit the top on as I may just fit the fixed plates from Miata spec cars, to stop it getting pinched.

Hey Rob,
AH!! the rules say I can't fit "a" turbo or supercharger, well I'm not. I'm gunna fit 2 turbos. Wanna see the faces on the scrutineers faces when they open the bonnet!!!!!
And how do ya recon some 2B drivers would react Stirrer? where? me? naaaaa!!!!
As for me, hopefully results will be back tomorrow and good news it will be, but if not I'll keep on keeping on
Playing in April at QR, do you mean the MX5 track day, I don't think I would be too welcome, I've had my say and I think that would be enough.
Wheels and tyres for sale, just got rid of some old 888's. Try Mike with the totaltools car.
What happened to you and Morgan Park? Did you run or not. From what I hear bit of biff and barge last race?????

Retro 2nd NA, Scooter's resto
Hey all,
Haven't done a hell of a lot to Scooter lately, just lots of figuring reading and experimenting etc.
Our calculations have led me to doing away with the Stewart intake system and building a different system all together.
Its amazing what a hydraulic engineer can work out with the right info and programs.
So this is what I'll be running with,
the start,
the middle,
and where it finishes.Still have some shield to make and fit and a bit of moding to the engine cover.
Has definately cleaned up the engine bay
Even changed the Variable TPS to a simpler unit, so will have an auto TB and new variable up for sale soon!!
It is quite surprising how much difference that added or reduced length will affect the output of the engine,(one advantage to working on a Porker GT2 racer, ya get to look at what the factory do) and how much cooler the AIT has come down.
Won't be coming here much for a while as I'm going in for a oil pump repair so keep out of mischief or don't get caught.
And Bryan, stay off the walls mate, I need ya up here for the Nationals
See Ya.

Nice work on the intake Terry. Can you post up some data on the intake temps? Maybe a before/after dyno run too?
Mate, I reckon my chances of getting up your way this year are now somewhere between "none" and "bucklies". Fixing the bimmer after that one momentary brainless act will cost me the equivalent of a full year of trackdays in the NA6.

See how next week goes and we'll work out something
Ok, I've decided I'll use this space to try and pass on some info I've gathered over the years.
http://www.camsmanual.com.au/ use it, think about it and then reread it, this is a legal document, it is open to interpretation and not everything is black and white. BUT make sure you have a convincing argument if your gunna try something too far of the block.
http://www.bmsc.com.au/forums/rallying- ... orums.html, interesting stuff.
Some of the best reading I've come across for helping to set up your car and the whys and wherefore it works and doesn't. Great for novices and pros.http://farnorthracing.com/autocross_secrets.html
Books that have helped,
Speed Secrets & Speed Secrets 2 by Ross Bentley, there are a few in the series ,I prefer these two.
How to make your car handle by Fred Pugh?? an old book but very informative if at times a bit heavy. Remember, suspension is nothing but compromise on a production based road car!!!! even a GT2 or 3. And a sway bar cannot work properly if the linkpins are not straight up and down as per the factory!!!!!!(think about it and how to get around it, look at the pics)
Track Data by Craig Pearce, avail in ebay.com. Cheap as, as the list are something that we all think we should do , but never do. ALWAYS in the transporter and my suit bag. BOAGS and Crewman should really have this book.
A few things to think about BEFORE you start to play on your car.
Do you have the ability to do the job and the ability to ask for HELP when the sh*t hits the fan???
Just because everyone else does it DOESN'T make it right or work the way they say it will!!!!!!!!
Dynos do lie, use them to guage on % of improvement, but your best dyno is track times and PBs.
If it doesn't say you can do it , you can't. Seeming a quote from CAMS. I've never seen it written in the book, and if we go by that theory no-one will ever try anything new, so to me a load of Crap!!!!! But again stay within the gray areas!!!!
Enough for now, I'm getting tired (POB)

Re: tbro's 2nd NA, Scooter's resto
Seems Danny and I post around the same time!! after big gaps.
Update on Scooter.
Were do I start, finished building the new motor and had more head work done and finally put her on the dyno. Started pulling some good numbers then went further and after stuffing around with regulators was pulling hp figures just off the GP car and Millers car(same tuner same dyno). More than happy with that but we were running too close so backed it off. Fitted some bigger injectors, fitted a higher capacity fuel pump and back onto the dyno. Ended up down on what was available but with 5% over-fuel for the 1 hr at Morgan we were happy.
Then someone did what I asked them not to do and I ended up with a no go.
So I spat the dummy and put him up for sale. Lots of if onlys etc, then Nicky and Wendy asked me not to sell him and to do a rebuild.
I got in touch with Lou and purchased a NB motor and then Andy offer his motors up so I bought one off him too!!!!
Did a bolt down on Friday and dropped off roll bars and my old engine and bits and pieces, picked up the 2 engines and headed home. Nicky and I arrived back in Brissy Sunday, unloaded and stripped the NA motor.
So now I've got a block sitting on a stand, a head going off to the machine shop after I finish off the ports and chambers.I've ordered new valves, followers etc. The new rods etc arrived so their together with the pistons, and every thing is going down for a balance when I get some more mulla.
Working out the compression ratio at around 12.6 to 1, may need to drop that down a bit me thinks. So it will end up very close to the B6 build, Supertech 11 to 1 pistons, M Tech rods, ARP bolts everywhere, ACL bearings everywhere, gates belt, Bell Eng oil pump, head work and port matched manifold, bigger injectors, Toda flywheel and pretty pink clutch kit Cams are a bit of mystery atm, gunna wait until we flow the head and fit the bigger valves then Roy can work out the best cam grind to do to suit this engine. Hoping to secure a set of Racing Beat headers that have been coated. Then once all of that is finished back on the dyno again. Now I need to save up my pennies, sell the NB motor and try and keep in good health ( less stress would probably help) and I've now learnt if your gunna lend your car DON'T
So I'm running the NA motor so I can stay in 2F, if I want to I can go to 2B if I want to run slicks.
Quick question, WTF is the fuel reg on a NA8 fitted and is it normal that the fuel rail has bolt on fuel pipes or should it have slide on rubber lines?????
So now Scooter will see track time but maybe not as much as a race car more a track day special.

It is like deja vu looking at your thread , pistons, rods, shiney ports, but you are getting things together much quicker.
Love the work, can't wait to see how many ponies you make.

Fuel reg is on the front of the manifold at the end of the fuel rail. Hoses are rubber slip on front and rear. Let me know if you want a photo.

It is on yours but not on the original fuel rail.
Tez the FPR is toward the back of the engine, pretty much in-line with cylinder #4.
As for fuel pipes, from memory, there are short hard pipes at funny angles welded to the square-section fuel rail. The only bolts I remember are the two attaching the FPR to the rail.
