[WA] and1's 2005 MX5 SE
Hey guys how you all doing?
My name's Andy and I'm from Perth, WA.
The 5 is the second car I've ever owned.
This is my first love...
2005 Toyota Corolla Sportivo
She will be on sale soon
Any ways, back to the 5.
I got her about a couple of months ago. Did some prior reading this forum to try to suss out what I was getting myself into.
This is what has been done to her before I acquired her:
-AEM intake
-FMIC kit (unsure of brand)
-SMB turbo back exhaust
-HKS EVC boost controller (boost at 10PSI)
-GFB full recirc BOV
-King Spring lows on factory Bilsteins
-MX5 Plus dual hoop torque box roll bar in black
-Unsure if the sway bars are upgraded. They are red.
-Audio system with custom sub box in the boot
-MX5 Plus front license plate bracket
-clear reflectors front and rear
What I have added since I have owned her:
-4300K HID kit
-Interior, parkers and rear license lights replaced with LEDs
-16x8, ET38 Rays Volk Racing GR-C CV Pro in gloss black with 205/45/16 Hankook Ventus RS-2s
Mods for the near future:
-360cc GTX injectors (got them with the car)
-25mm spacers (on the way)
-Prosport boost gauge (on the way)
-ECU of some sort (most probably E-Manage Ultimate)
-A more supportive driver's seat
-Better sussy
Here's some pics of her atm:
A few of you guys will be familiar with this car as it originally came from VIC I think. I bought if off the guy who brought it across to WA.
Hope to meet a few of the guys when there's a meet.
Cheers

Re: [WA] and1's 2005 MX5 SE
Hello And1 and welcome to the forum. It's nice to see another red SE.
Picks look great. I've been hunting for some photo's of a red MX with clear indicators to see what they are like and then...you arrive...very nice.
I'm in the progress of doing many of the things you have already done. Photo's etc are here.

You will certainly have a great time in the MX.
All the best

Re: [WA] and1's 2005 MX5 SE
Car has changed a little since I put up this..
Found out my wheels are actually a 16x7. So got some spacers.
-30mm bolt on spacers rear
-25mm bolt on spacers front.
The HKS EVC was acting up so I replaced it with a Turbosmart manual boost tee and a 52mm Autometer Ultralite II mech boost gauge and removed a bunch of vacuum lines at the same time.
Replaced my roll bar with a Mazdaspeed NR-A 6 point cage with harness bar.
I also made a fiberglass sub enclosure that utilised the spare wheel well. So I have normal boot space. Win!
Other minor things added:
-Oil catch can and factory front strut removed (will be replaced later)
-Engine torque damper
-NoPro washer bottle relocation kit
-Yoshi!
An ECU is on the cards as I have some GTX injectors laying around. Just need some more dosh

Re: [WA] and1's 2005 MX5 SE
Just a lil update.
I remounted my HID ballast so that they are not in the engine bay no more. A little cut in the plastic splash guard and some cable ties and they are not budging
Nice, neat and out of the way.
I also vinyl'd my my fogs in JDM as yo! yellow. I've been wanting to do this for a while but never got round to it.
And most recently acquired a Sparco Sprint V! Like others have said, so much more comfy than the stockers. I do have an issue with the rail now hitting the bolt so I am not able to slide the rails no more. Any tips?
I am almost done with the interior. MiataRoadster short throw shifter stock height, Works Bell short hub, Works Bell Rapfix QRS and a new steering wheel. These will come when I get more cash. It's hard for a uni student

I just bought some see through automotive grade vinyl, cut it roughly to size, then soapy water, heat and some patience.
I don't actually have any pics on the car yet but the pic i put up before is the finished product.

Re: [WA] and1's 2005 MX5 SE
Ok so I just came back from heading down south with my missus. Great trip, lots of driving and the '5 didn't miss a beat! Went Perth-> Mandurah-> Bunbury-> Busselton-> Bunbury and had only used a little over 22L over that 315km period! I normally average 350kms for the whole tank with city driving, so very happy with that!
Just took a couple of photos while out and about:
The fog lights are on here.
Close up of the foggies:
When I got home:
And one I took a few weeks ago when cleaning the car. I think white walls would work well
Also my gf being the awesome person she is, ordered me some interior goodies
I'll be waiting with anticipation!

Happy 21st Birthday
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Re: [WA] and1's 2005 MX5 SE
Well all the parts have arrived and are in!!!
-MiataRoadster short shift kit, stock height
-Works Bell short hub adapter with airbag delete
-Works Bell QRS
-Replica 330mm Momo Prototipo style in suede with red stitching
-Track Dog Racing oil pressure sender kit (haven't had a chance to do this one yet)
Track Dog Racing oil pressure sender kit to turn the idiot gauge into something useful hopefully.
Firstly onto the shifter...
Pulled the trim to get to the shifter turret and removed everything to get the old shifter out. Found out that the lower shift boot has disintegrated and the grease had a funny milky tinge to it.
Anyways greased up the new shiny shifter with some lithium grease.
I proceeded to fit the shifter but ran into a hiccup
A few emails were exchanged with Bill from MiataRoadster and within half an hour it was all sorted.
Culprit being the stock lower bushing on the lower ball. Very embarrassing that I didn't pick up on it earlier . It's the blue thing in this pic:
Now the difference:
Stock shifter in neutral:
Short shift in neutral:
Stock in 1st:
Short shift in 1st:
Stock in 2nd:
Short shift in 2nd:
The feel is very much direct and feels much like the TWM shifter in my old 6-speed ZZE123 Corolla Sportivo (albeit little less clunky)
Me likey!

Re: [WA] and1's 2005 MX5 SE
Now the hub/QR/wheel install...
Removing the wheel made me sweat abit but was relatively easy in the end.
The contents of the Works Bell hub adapter package:
And hub on!
NOTE: I eventually had to cut off the airbag connector as it would not fit behind the QR. But everything otherwise would have been plug and play. I have kept the connectors and have crimped the ends so its still reversible later on.
Hub side of QR on:
At this point I turned on to IGN to see if the aigbag light would disappear. Luckily after some fiddling it went away!
