NA6 Flywheel upgrade

Postby adrianciaff » Sat Apr 30, 2011 8:10 pm

Just wondering if anyone out there has any experience with this particular type of flywheel for the 1.6/1.8.

After doing a bit of research i have come to find that aluminium flywheels such as the fidanza ones after time can look unusable ( i wouldnt trust it anyway..) as they develop a corrosion around the bolts near the centre. May not be the case for everyone but for this reason i have decided to stay away from aluminium.

ACT seems to be a fairly developed brand and i have read a few good things about this particular flywheel.. that is the "prolite" series. It seems they make a forged steel alternative to their aluminium version at the cost of an extra 0.3 pounds. Hopefully this should lock up nicely with my exedy heavy duty clutch? Any objections please do tell.

Anyway this is it.

(its just a reference to the part, i am not sourcing it from this website in particular..)

All advice appreciated.

The one you have is exactly what i have been looking at. :D Allthough yours is for the 1.8 and you say it is 9 pounds. But from what i have read so is the 1.6 version? i would have thoguht the 1.6 version would be lighter :?: but anyways, if your still happy with it then looks like a winner.

Do you mind asking how much you payed for it? i am yet to be quoted by my local clutch shop...

Nice thread by the way :)

It wasnt cheap... I remember I had pay a lot for it because it came from USA and at the time the AUD was worthless but I needed a new clutch at the time

Now the AUD is crazy high....

I was under the impression that ACT only made a flywheel for the 1.8. However they may have expanded their range since I got mine Im not sure.

In general the 1.6 flywheel should be lighter (same diameter but it's a traditional flywheel so you dont have as much metal around the locating pins).

I know I say 9 pounds but when I weighed it was 4.239 Kg.
