I have put the splitter to the test today at the Mx5 club sprint event and I am pleased to say that is works. The difference that it has made is quite amazing really, I knew it would work, but was not expecting the difference to be so noticable. It obviously has not affect in the slow corners, but in the ones at 80kph and above it is awesome.

I have loads of front turn in now - problem is the rear cannot handle it too well. It took a bit of getting used to. There was one 90deg corner that I managed to go around with the steering wheel pointing straight for about 60% of it.

I have to think about the rear now

What sort of speed could you carry around the sweeper?

From the video I took it is 100-105kph. In comparison to other vids, I think it is a bit faster, but I don't think I will get the full benefits until I do something with the rear to address the balance of the car. I don't feel that I am able to use the full benefits of the front grip because the rear will not hang on and this does not inspire confidence

In terms of the speed, it is the difference that is important in terms of the splitter, the overall speed will be mainly the tyres if you are comparing against your own figures.

I have gotten my block and crank back from the machine shop today, and drop my B6T head off for a clean up before porting work starts. I am amazed how clean the block is, I thought it had been cleaned and painted. Black is not the best colour for spotting leaks though. I am really happy with the work that has been done.

The Carrillo rods are in transit, so should be here soon and I am hoping to order the ACL Race bearings this week, so the re-build can start soon.

While I have been away, my bearing and studs have arrived, so ready to start building the bottom end.

I was thinking I would add the following to the tech guides, if people think it will be useful

1 - How to gap piston rings
2 - General crank/rods/piston fitting
3 - checking/measuring deck height
4 - de-shrouding valves
5 - porting

I really want an APR GTC-200, like the one below, but the shipping is more than the item right now, so I cannot justify it. Really need to get my engine done first

Finally started the engine rebuild, still have a few things that I am waiting for...
-- Oil pump
-- piston ring grinder
-- stretch gauge

But thought I would make a start - the crank is now fitted ...

Studs and bearings ready to go

Crank dropped in place with plenty of engine assembly lubrication on there.

Studs greased and ready to torque up.

Looks good Simon, are you getting an adjustable hone tool or is it fixed width?

I was also looking at a dial gauge to measure the bore diameter. Seem most places just sell spring style gauges that you then measure with vernier callipers.

The block has had a 2mm over bore because of the size of the pistons, so the machine shop took care of the overbore and hone.

The gauge I am waiting for is to measure the stretch in the con-rod bolts.

For what you need, I think you can get a special internal micrometre to measure bores, you use different pre-sized rods to allow measurement over many sizes.

If you are going to the autotest on sunday, we can have a chat then.

(I was really please with my performance in the sprint series on sunday (wet and dry), so it has inspired me to pull my finger out)
