I am talking about cams. I have been told that it will be a coupe replica, not a roadster with a roof. How many cars these days have had the roof replaced with c.f anyway?

This needs a context, and perhaps a bit more explanation.

For series eligibility? This would not surprise me, we have seen a lot of 'flexibility' in series acceptability, and it is really up to the person responsible (category manager?). I'd be interested to know what series will accept a 'coupe replica', but not a hardtop MX. And how long it might last when (not if  ) the MXs start winning  .

For technical requirements? I think this mainly relates to cages and harnesses, and the 50mm rule. I would be surprised if a 'coupe replica' consisting of an MX with a CF (or similar) roof, would be treated any different to a hardtop MX. And if it is, it would/should trigger a complete review of the 'convertible with a hardtop is a convertible not a sedan' thing.

If you owned an original coupe it would never be regarded as a roadster with a roof. So if you replaced that roof with a lightweight roof it would still be a coupe. There really is no other differences in the cars. WHat defines a roadster? The ability to remove the roof? So if the roof was bonded to the car would it no longer be a convertible? And if that roof was a copy of a similiar model mx5? I am not 100% that it is going to be accepted in all classes, but it is definately something that could work. The car becomes a coupe after the roof is bonded the way i look at it. For an example what happens if you bought a series 5 rx7 convertible and decided to buy a normal steel roof and weld it on? Would it still be a convertible?

I don't want to get into a debate about what CAMS will or will not accept, only CAMS can do that. I only sought clarification about your statement.

I also don't want to get into the questions of what is a replica, reproduction etc, and what can be accepted on the same basis as the original. I would only suggest that if you want to make any statements about the status of this 'conversion' with CAMS (or anyone else for that matter but especially CAMS), that you get it in writing from them.

In the meantime, I look forward to seeing this hardtop/conversion progress to production. It will be a a welcome addition to the MX line.
