haha really want to go on one of those, haven't been on one at all, but really interested, I think I might have to save up for a bit first though, it seems really expensive!

Its cheap, man up. Seriously, I bet if youd done two trackdays this wouldnt have happened? Now how expensive is it?

what's cheap? I done a few quick calculations and it looks like it would cost me into the few hundreds. That's with track hire, CAMS licence, helmet hire, fuel, tyre's.

Yes, and I bet you spent just as much if not more fixing your crash damage. Plus you just spent $285 on a CAI which does little more than bling your engine bay and make more noise! And I bet you've still learnt nothing about how to stop that sort of crash happening again. Seriously man, don't assume you're a brilliant driver. Please consider fixing the root cause of the problem by improving your driving skills. Start with a driver training day where you'll learn all about braking, understeer, oversteer and how to deal with all three. Then you need to practice, practice, practice. That's where trackdays come in. Brush off this advice if you like - it's only your life that could be at stake next time you misjudge a corner. :D

Are there any specific driver training days you suggest? I've always been keen on attending such things.
Oh I know I'm not even remotely close to being a brilliant driver haha I realise I've got so much to know, if only I owned my own racetrack to practice all day long..

Sure, I can suggest some places if you're Sydney-based. Where do you live?

I live in campbelltown, how much does a day usually cost you, if you don't mind me asking.

OK so you're local. :D Unfortunately you only just missed the driver training day held by the MX-5 Club at Marulan last month. Cost of that was $80 (from memory), plus $30 for a Marulan licence. There's a long thread on here about that day. It will be an annual event for the club in future.

Marulan also organize a variety of driver training days. Check out http://www.MDTC.com.au for details. Cost is quite a bit more than what the club charged. Around $250 I think.

Driving Solutions do some excellent driver training days at Eastern Creek skidpan. They have a few different levels, and prices start at $275 for the day including morning tea and lunch. They're an excellent day out and worth every cent, IMHO. I've done them several times. 8) Have a look at http://www.drivingsolutions.com.au for more info.

There are a few other Sydney-based driver training companies. Google "Ian Luff", "Murcotts" and "Finlays" for a few of the more reputable ones. Costs are generally around the $250-$300 mark.

If you don't have the cash, why not drop the hint with mum & dad for a birthday/Christmas present idea? These courses are all about driver safety and most parents are only too keen to help their kids in this direction. Alternatively if your patents or grandparents are insured with AAMI, they offer a free driver training day for their U25 siblings. It's a great deal!

If you want cheap, do a couple of Motorkhanas
Need a minimum CAMS L2NS licence @ $57
Entry to a Motorkhana is about $70 in NSW although prices vary
No helmet, fire extinguisher or race suit required
Don't need to modify the car assuming it is in good mechanical condition!

More details at the NSW Motorkhana Web Site

This is what you need to do. Its the correct starting point for any person learning to race who didnt start in a kart as a kid.

70 bucks an event, and you dont need tyres etc. Some of your comments remind me of general evo owner comments, 'oh yeah its a track car, it will do its forst event as soon as Ive bought some lighter wheels to compliment the slicks I havent bought yet and not to forget the turbo upgrade and tune it will get sometime this century, then ill be there for sure.'

Dont think like that, a couple motorkhanas or hillclimbs is worth many many seconds improvement per lap, a set of better street tyres is not.
