NB6 cam help :(
Hey guys,
So i recently bought some cams for my nb6 motor, before bidding for them i researched on the toda website to see if it would interfere with the solid lifters or if i would have to make any modifications to suit. For what specs i bought it said i didnt need to. The specs are 256* 8.5mm Intake and the same for exhaust. Now on the toda site it says that it can be used without the inner shim kit and its only when its a 9mm lift cam thats when it need moddifying. But i was asking around and they said that it wouldnt work.
I just need a straight answer. Will this size cam work with my solid lifters without throwing off the shim ?
Regards,
Charlie

Re: NB6 cam help :(
I've never bothered with cams with my NB6 because I assumed NA6 cams wouldn't work and NB6 cams would be rare. I'm interested to see how you go!

Re: NB6 cam help :(
thanks mate.
From what i have read on the web, The toda cams i got specify that i need solid lifters to run them. So im trying to find out whether the nb6 solid lifters will be alright. Since the lift isnt a great deal more i cant see why it would through it out more.. I dont know though, im new to solid lifters so i need help
i sent an email to toda japan and im just waiting for a reply. Would the stock solid lifters be ok ? its not like the cams are crazy either.
anyways if anyone knows, please chime in

Easy answer, If you car already has solid lifters which it sounds like it does, then yes you HAVE TO shim these to fit your new lifters, you cant just go ahead and slap them in. you will have drivetrain wear and probably breakable very fast if you dont.

Yeah just found the answer i was looking for 5 mins ago.. Also got told they are different grinds, hla cams are only to be used for hlas. and solid lifter cams only for solid lifters..

You can use hla cams on solids, the reason you cant use solid cams on hlas is that solid cams lift the valve up far harder and more aggressively, and this is too hard for the weak oil filled hlas. This is one reason you can make more power with solids with the same lift and duration, it opens faster and closes faster allowing a greater -average- lift height.

Re: NB6 cam help :(
You need to find out what the lifter clearance is, this is the space between the lifter and the base circle of the cam when cold. (the base circle is the semi circle part of the lobe that does not lift the valve.)
You then install the cams into the head but dont put it all together just put the cam caps on, you measure the current clearance with feeler guages then you order the right thickness shims tomake up the gap. when you pull the cams you will be able to remove the lifters and then it will become very obvious what how the shims on solid lifters work.

Well hla cams with solid lifters. I was asking more about solid lifter cams with solid lifters.
I'm not sure if it's worth the expense for me to go to hotter cames with FI.

my god!
this guys seems to think he has cams for an na6, and thus is why he is now selling them in the for sale section. as i said i'm still not aware of any company that sells "bolt in" cams for the nb6. i'm sorry for any confusion or exasperation i may have caused, i'll feck off now and leave you in peace.

Ive been Pming him like half a dozen times. He tells me that he has NB6 cams, ive explained that you cant just drop them in and that any cam change with solid lifters requires reshimming.
