engine replacement cost?

Postby nissky » Tue Apr 12, 2011 4:04 pm

How much would it cost (roughly) to get an engine replaced in an NA, with a standard replacement engine.?
$1000 for engine?
how much for labour?

Depends on the shop. It isnt that hard but takes a while - 6-8 hours assuming all goes well. Maybe more.

Multiply that by your standard $80-$120/hr rate.

Im a mechanic.

But even if i werent and I wanted a weekend car Id definately buy a blown one.

Your gonna end up putting forgies in it anyway so why start with a running engine etc.
Not to mention all suspension bushes and shocks etc will be replaced, half the interior. etc etc

Win :)

Sadly my forgies will need to wait until I get itchy and turn the boost up too high on the stock internals... ;)

supertech pistons plus m tuned rods and oil pump gears equals 8500rpm and 400 HP with enough boost, so why wouldnt you? For the 1200 it will cost anyways.

^^ This, plus a shagged 1.8 to rebuild, and I can do both :)

My thought patterns are closer to yours than you think, Dann!

This car isn't boosted yet - not even painted yet :)

But when it is, it won't be my first boosted mx5!
