Rain water & Ethylene Glycol?

So could I use only distilled water with something like Redline Water Wetter? It's not an anti-freeze, but has anti corrosion.

I have this funny feeling that this topic has attracted all the science graduates, masters and doctorates on the forum. Maybe we can now talk about the factual evidence of global warming under cover of engine coolants? This is becoming one of the only countries in the world now where we can't.

My research has told me the planet has actually cooled by .7 degrees in the last century :lol:

Not wanting to rain on anyone's parade here, and not trying to be political, but have you noticed that they are no longer calling it Global Warming, but Global Climate Change now?

Guess they have to hedge their bets.

Only another 5 degrees and the climate will be almost bearable on the Gold Coast.

Mind you the ocean would've receded to about Norfolk Island by then, so you'd have to call it the Gold Scrub.

But doesn't climate change occur anyway? That's like politicans making paranoia about "The increase of human breathing"

Problem is depending on what you read you get a different answer

Temporarily on topic, I think Redline Water Wetter is about the only one of the non-ethylene glycol based products freely available on the Australian market. It's got a good reputation in terms of corrosion inhibition and cooling performance.

There are a couple of good home-based suppliers around: Harold at Performancelub in Melbourne and I think one in Sydney too. Just google Redline on this site.

Nulon Ultra Cool is non glycol based as well, seems to do the job in my car.

So should would one still stick to the 50:50 ratio as stated in the manual? Or go to a 33:66 with more water?

I use Nulon Ultra Cool Pre-Mix it contains no Glycol.
From the Nulon site; "Nulon Ultra Cool Pre-Mix (R45PM) contains corrosion
Inhibitors and demineralised water and is designed to
Provide maximum heat transfer in cooling systems where
anti-freeze/anti-boil (glycol) is not specified. Heat transfer
in the cooling system is done predominantly by water which
has an excellent heat transfer coefficient. Glycol has the
ability to extend the operating temperature range of a
coolant, however it has a higher heat transfer coefficient
than that of water. This is the main reason why non-glycol
based coolants transfer heat much more efficiently than
glycol based coolants."
It cools the engine and I don't go to the snow :shock:

so, job done. I do change it in every spring as the coolant must pick up all types of contaminants considering the environment it populates.
I never understand the boil part of the "anti-boil-freeze" if the Glycol lowers cooling efficiency of the coolant?
