Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it does. If the driver was a bit more efficient though, you may get away with only needing 100watts to be able to shake, rattle and roll.
It's all a comprimise, it peeves me though when companies won't supply adequate specs on drivers.

You need to consider also that this is a 10", 4ohm woofer and that the sensitivity is rated at 1w/1m.

Remember that most companies rate their sensitivity at 2.83v/1m, and when converting this to 1w/1m for a 4ohm driver you typically lose about 3db-4dB of sensitivity.

Most 10", 4ohm subs out there are rated at somewhere around 87dB - 88dB @ 2.83V/1m, so when you take all of this into consideration it's only really 1dB (maybe 2dB max) less efficient then an average 10". Then consider that an extra 2dB sensitivity is about the difference between 100w and 160w it's not really that big a deal.

It's definately not a HIGH sensitivity sub, but there are worse ones out there in that regard. I'm glad that clarion at least are honest enough to rateit at 1w/1m (which gives a more accurate reflection) rather then rating at 2.83V to try to make the driver look more sensitive then it is.

Not that I would personally consider that sub myself either way. As stated previously im extremely anal about sound quality and accuracy and there is no way the Clarion sub would meet my needs. It takes a very rare level of sonic accuracy to impress me, and up until now i have only really heard 3 of 4 subs that i would ever consider putting in my car and they are:

1. Peerless XXLS (~$350)
2. Rainbow Vanadium (~$700)
3. Morel Ultimo (~$800)
4. Eclipse SW800 (~$500)

Problem is that out of those three, only the Peerless and the Morel are really suitable for modest sized boxes...and neither of them are even remotely close to being suitable in 6L.

Good news (sarcasm) is that I just got laid off at work so I need to find a new job...which means they'll be plenty of time for me to work on my install and hopefully find a way to fabricatesomething with closer to optimal volume (14-18L).

Muzzy I believe if a box was in the the same position as mine and you plastic coated the cavity then Space foamed the whole cavity then glassed over that you would be able to get you 14l easily, maybe even a little more.
There is a lot of empty space there I am not using with my little box.
I might even do it myself now you have got me started.
Sorry to hear about your job and I dont think you are anal at all about the quality.
The problem is once you have heard a quality system you are never happy with anything less. I get it.

Hey i havent done it yet.
But ive been shopping for 8" DECENT SPEAKERS.. but have found nothing. So i've decided to do a 6x8" speaker mod, ive bought the pod/adapter thingy for it and ive bought some 6x8 ROCKFORD FOSGATE PUNCH Power Series speakers, i had to buy them off ebay couldnt find any in the shops.
I got a KICKER KX250.2 amp running, all im doing now is waiting for the bloody speakers to arrive lol, even got the 2GAUGE wiring setup for the amp and 12guage speaker wires. Going to insulate and and deaden sound in the doors with dynamat. Thats gonna stop the rattling, hopefully it'll improve quality to.

My car came with some cheap ass Alpine deck, so just sticking to that till i can be stuffed saving for some nice double DIN. And i still have my BOSE tweeters hooked up, a tweeter good as the BOSE ones is about $100 its just not worth buying lol.

After i've done that..
later will add a 6" subwoofer, with a tiny tiny box to mount just where the soft top sits. (not under it but a little before it closer to the Front of the car). Just a theory if its the 6x8's dont end up being enough.

ok ive done the upgrade 6x8's but the amp i gota ROCKFORD PUNCH P400.4
BEAUTIFULL sound now i just need tweeters, ALOT OF DYNAMAT lol and a small sub cmoing soon

6x8's cause they easy fit.

6" sub i thought would be easy fit now im reconsindering lol. i really dont wanna put it in the boot

8" subs fit in the rear parcel shelf with no modification. 10" fit with some cutting.
