My NA has a small phillips head screw under the knob, the fan-ac switch just pulls off.

Don't they just pull out? Loop a string behind it and try pulling it straight out. If it won't budge, give MX5 Mania a call. I'm sure AJ or Dave can advise you how to do it.

Re: Heater Control Knob Removal
A quick google and the miata net forum, mentions very small philips head screws that require a jewelers screw driver,as per the ones needed to fix your glasses. i dont have the car handy at the moment to have a look, but i always though there was a screw involved somewere. Dont the new chrome knobs give you a similar screw hole underneath ?? obviously not !!
Quote from miata net:
You need a jewelers screwdriver to get the little screws out of the bottom of the sliders. (Don't drop them, they are really tiny)

From memory they just pop off. I took mine apart before (also an NB8A) and I don't remember having to use a screwdriver to remove screws. Don't quote me on that though, because that was a good 4 odd years ago.

Re: Heater Control Knob Removal
I just checked on my NA - There are small screws under the 3 knobs that slide (temperature, etc). I couldn't see anything on the actual main dial though - I tried pulling the crap out of it and it wasn't going anywhere
(I currently have chrome ones and I am trying to go back to OEM
).
