Rev limiter flames
ok im pretty much interested in shooting bit of flames out of my n/a NB 01 model mx5.
in my old car a rev limiter did the trick particularly the BEE R Rev Limiter. It had a ignition cut off rather than a fuel cut off.
i have 2 questions
1. will it work like it did on my old honda?
2. is there a better way of doing this?
p.s. im young and i have no concern for the law so please dont mention that its defectable or any of the sort, i know and dont care.
i cant get turbo so dont suggest that

Re: Rev limiter flames
No ideas on that one I'm afraid, but here is a helpful article on how to get blow off valve sounds..
Mate the flutter... tu tu tu, woop woop woop sound you are after is fairly easy to get.
Don't listen all these wankers that tell you to cut the brake lines or remove the bov etc..
it's fairly easy to do.
It can be costly but it can be done on cheap and the end result is the same.
now.
if you have a 4 door car, it is easier, but it can be done on the 2 doors as well.
The following are the parts you will need:
1 x Ball point pen (I'm a high roller these days so I use a PARKER PEN, but any old pen will do.)
1 x shetland pony (this is the expensive part, but to make it cheaper, you can just steal one)
the key to getting the flutter right depends on how much you have the window open and your use of the pen.
as you do it mroe and more, you will get better at it..
firstly, get the pony in to the back seat.
this is where it is easier if you have a 4 door.
you can just push him in.
but with a 2 door, their feet get all tangled when you try to jam them in to the back as they trip on the front seat rails.
get him in there and shut the doors.
now, go to the side where his head is and open the windo just enough to get his mouth out of the car.
get in the drivers seat.
start car
and start moving.
get on a good straight bit of road first (you're still new to the flutter game)
get the pen ready (make sure the point is out)
accelerate and when you get to the point where you are about to step on the clutch to change gear...
JAB THE HORSES LEG WITH THE PEN
he will go. MAHUHUHUHUHUHUHU
giving you the soudn you want.
the sound can be adjusted in 2 ways.
how much the window is open and how hard you jab his leg.
you'll get the perfect note eventually..
but take note, you jab him too hard, he will turn and bite you on the back of your head.
If you don't want a defect on your car, you gotta make it stealth.
so make sure the windows are tinted and even go as far as spraying the horses face in Matt black paint to hide it from the cops.
cruise around the city jabbin away mate..
Fooly sik bro..

as long as it is ignition cut, it will work the same as your old Honda.
didn't know blowing flames was illegal. unless you put a spark plug device inside the exhaust to ignite the unburnt fuel. that is a different story.
if you were happy with the BeeR limiter, then just get another.

Re: Rev limiter flames
Bee R limiter shouldn't be a problem unless you decide to run a turbo. Remove the cat
Flames are a lot easier with an aftermarket ECU.

Re: Rev limiter flames
Other thing I can see being a problem is melting the insides out of your cat, and I don't think exhaust flows too well through a solid melted block of cat insides
If you want lots of flames, do a rotary swap, in my old housemates RX7 you'd see a flash of light behind the car everytime you changed gear as it shot a big flame!

Re: Rev limiter flames
My stock engined NB shot flames out the exhaust on gear changes/backoffs when the Adaptronic tune was out and I wasn't running a cat conv.
Once I put the cat on (without changing anything else) it no longer shot flames, just black fuel smoke, as the cat obviously arrests the flames...
So not sure you'll get any flames if you run a cat.

Re: Rev limiter flames
ou probably didn't pick the best forum to ask about fooly sik flames, the MX5 crowd isn't usually that rice-y, but if flames is what you want, we've given you some advise on the topic - enjoy..

Has anybody checked the date of the OP?
When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?
