Power windows issue
Re: Power windows issue
Here are my thoughts.
If regreasing doesn't work and cleaning contacts doesn't work.
Could there be a wiring issue within the motor.
Only way to test would be to substitute a known working motor.

Re: Power windows issue
On mine, the passsenger side window worked perfectly. The drivers side window either stalled part way down, would not move at all or moved slowly. Disassembling and cleaning the switches (I used a wire brush and isopropyl) worked perfectly.... I had previously tried cleaning and lubicating etc, without any change. I think previous posters are correct in saying to try the switches first, as this is the simplest possible solution. Don't do the hard stuff unless you absolutely have to. There may be some resistance in the physical components of the door, but that is quite normal. When you have resistance across the switch, the motor will fail as soon as it meets that physical resistance, as it will not be getting enough power to complete its task.
Try the switches first. It's a 15 minute job (even for a gumby like me). If that doesn't work, pull the door apart.

Re: Power windows issue
I guess until Narcotix posts again, we will all need to wait to find out what the problem is . Would be really funny if we were all wrong

Hah, it sure would be - I have to find some time to get this done! Going to be moving house next weekend so will be packing all this weekend
Car is at the mechanics today for what may be a far more serious issue. I'm hoping to fix the window this weekend, need to grab a wire brush and isopropyl first though.
Rest assured, I will post back as I try each solution, until the problem is fixed.

Another thing to check is a rubber guide that goes in the rail closest to the door handle inside the door. Had that issue with one of mine with it perishing, starting to crack and jamming the track.

Re: Power windows issue
cleaning the switches contacts is good but not a permanent solution as once they start getting worn they will continue to do the same thing by the sounds of the problem the window reg is failing you ive recently lubricated the cable that runs through the reg and re-aligned the glass in the window goes up and down alot smoother

Re: Power windows issue
For those of you eagerly hanging on to the edge of your seats, I've not yet fixed this. Just out of time lately! Moved house last weekend, demolishing the kitchen this weekend... So much to do!
Three days of sun though over the Easter long weekend and I'd love to be able to take the top off, so will keep us posted if I manage to get around to this.

Re: Power windows issue
I had a similar problem- window descends part way then grinds to a halt-
Problem found- The cable that raises/lowers the glass is held located by a small nylon guide (clip) plugged into a hole in the inner door steel panel.
This nylon guide had dislodged from the door panel allowing the cable to run closer to the glass. As the window descended the glass frame would foul on the cable stopping its full descent into the door.
I Reseated the nylon guide in its hole- problem solved.
I cannot find the part in workshop diagrams but image shows its general location within the panel.

Re: Power windows issue
Okay, progress, and wobertc i think you're on the money. Here's why...
I had a go, got some silicon lubricant and took off the door card.
Cleaned the rubber guide on the edge of the window, then sprayed as best as i could the two metal guide rails with the silicon. After a bit of up and downing of the window, it suddenly moved past the spot it kept sticking at. Yay! It's also moving a lot quicker than the driver side door. Well worth lubricating!
So I thought it was all good, went for a drive with my wife and i proceed to show off my new working window, and it stuck again.
Took it off today, lubricated it up again, got it working, noticed a plastic holder thing approx where wobertc has circled was empty (couldn't see it when the window was up), felt around for a cable that's meant to go in there. haven't found it yet, but the window works perfectly when the door is open
When it's closed, you can hear something clicking in to place, stopping it from going down. Unclicks when it goes back up. Weird.
Anyway, coming back to read wobertc's response it looks like I just have to get it off one more time and feel around for it, put it back in to place.
EDIT: Just back inside from trying again. Found a white, triangular shaped piece of plastic at the bottom of the door, obviously broken off from somewhere. I think this is the guide the cable is meant to go in to?
Any ideas on what I can do with the cable? It's definitely the thing getting caught as per above.

Well apparently I can do a fix with cable ties and the bit that broke off. I'm going to check out the driver side door to see what it's meant to look like, because I have no idea, any I can't find anything on the web.

I've been through all of those and none of them help. Maybe I've missed it but nothing addresses a little triangular shaped piece of plastic breaking inside the door. Just have to wait until I have a bit of time to dismantle the driver side door and see how it's meant to go. Before I do that though I'm just going to see if the cable is slipping off the roller guide, as I recall seeing a slight kink in the cable.

Re: Power windows issue
Does anyone know if the mechanism on the NB is the same as the NA? I have diagrams of the NA assembly....

Re: Power windows issue
So...
Noddycar sent me the diagrams for an NA door, which turns out is different from the NB door. However, as I was attempting to put the cable in through the plastic clip as per an NA door, it dawned on me that the cable should be tighter than it is, though it's not loose enough to hook in to the plastic clip. So i went looking for any other plastic clips that aren't where they're meant to be. And I found one!
It was along the top part of the cable, after the longer piece of foam but before the door hinge if that makes sense. I ran my fingers along from the top roller towards the hinge and came across it. I believe this is what many others may have referred to.
Initially I thought it was the cable had come loose and was rolling off the bottom roller, but I now realise that it was the bottom of the glass window getting caught on this plastic clip.
The clip's push pin wasn't aligned with the hole it was meant to poke through, so some careful manouvering and up/down of the window allowed me to line it up and pop it through.
The clip is damaged, and it will likely pop back through the hole if it's used enough. Fortunately, it's a problem that can be fixed with cable ties and so i'm not fussed about fixing it when it happens.
I don't have pictures, if anyone has similar problems, pm me and i'll post some as I know how hard it is to do this without experience or pictures.
What I did was nothing new, unfortunately, i've read this solution before but had no idea about the insides of the door, where cables should be etc and so I dismissed the problem as not mine.
Thanks to all those who offered suggestions, and to Noddycar for the diagram which ultimately led me to the fix. I have my window back now!

Re: Power windows issue
I had the very same problem with my passengers window and found exactly what Narcoticx2 found.
Very easy fix and is great to have the window back.
I would like to thank all the great people on this forum.
Without the info I found here I would have gone and bought a new regulator assembly.
