NC Seat Q's

Postby Schultzy » Tue Mar 29, 2011 1:05 am

Hi all

I'm not happy with my seats in the NC and want something with more support/bolstering. I have been told that for street use I can't swap them out for buckets as they have the airbags in them...

So it seems these are my options:

1: Retrim and reshape existing seats

2: Buy the Rearos from the GT model. I like them but very expensive.

3: Rumour has it that if I "accidently" set the airbags off, I can replace them with seats of my choice... Anyone able to confirm the?

Appreciate any input :-)

I'm in the same boat, as in I don't like my leather seats in my 2006 PRHT.
FWIW - I have spoken to a local trimmer (ingleburn NSW) and for $400, I can get the centre panels of the backrest and base retrimmed in suede and recushioned for about $450 (both seats).

Be careful with the re-trimming / shaping option. You are allowed to re-trim airbag seats but the company you use is supposed to hold a certificate of competancy to show that they know how to do it without affecting airbag deployment. Some seats are designed so that the cloth and the stitching on the side of the seat will burst and let the airbag free.

Yeah i've heard that. I was quoted to just do the centre panels of the backrest and base, and leave the side bolsters as the factory leather to hopefully avoid 'deployment' regs. DO you think just a centre panel retrim would affect it? thanks in advance.

I have had a leather seat back replaced on my Xtrail under warranty, so I would gues if they removed the leater cover and just did the centre panel that should be fine, as
there not touchin the airbag part.

this subject was raised only recently and a member showed photos and info on retrimming the NC in cloth - legally. The option 3 in the original post is crazy thinking. PS option 3 would also void insurance if it was discovered.
