I wonder how the spal fans compare to davis craig fans at supercrap etc.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Spend a lot of time stationary in traffic , do you? That's the only time fans have any value in an MX5. I reckon that driving the car forward moves much more air than a fan.

Fair enough if it's a fitment problem.
My opinion was based on having no fans on my car for 2 years while driving around inner city Melbourne. I only realized they had never been connected when I boiled it sitting on the grid at Calder for 15 minutes in a heatwave. Admittedly it was a stockish n/a motor but it still implied that spending heaps on fans wasn't good value.

In Melbourne you always have a cold drizzle getting sucked through the radiator.

A similar thing could be made a lot cheaper I think.

Borrow or take radiator out of car, make a cardboard stencil, cut tin sheeting to shape, buy Craig Davies fans etc. Not in that order though, otherwise there might be problems.

Mr B is using this with the FM cross flow radiator on SP race car. He's only just put it in with new motor. He ran at Winton a few weeks ago, it was pretty warm and he said the temperature didn't shift.

In terms of increasing air flow it may even be worth it to spend some time an make an air guide for the radiator, as there is a lot of gaps around the radiator where air can sneak past, and not go through the radiator and cool your water.

Good point, I've used some foam rubber to make my radiator seal better. The only time I notice the stock fans coming on is when i'm stopped in traffic long enough (but I don't have force induction), I haven't bothered wiring up the aircon fan to come on at the same time but I guess that'd be my first step before upgrading the fans / shroud.
