MX5 BREAKFAST CLUB – BREAKIE IN GAOL – 10 APRIL 2011
MX5 BREAKFAST CLUB – BREAKIE IN GAOL – 10 APRIL 2011
Meet: McDonalds, Richmond Rail, corner March Street & East Market Street, Richmond (adjacent to the train station, opposite Richmond Park).
Time: Sunday 10 April 2011 -6:30 for sign in:6:45 briefing; start at 7.00am sharp. A cup of filtered coffee will be provided of Nicaraguan "cup of excellence", a particular fine coffee. Before and during sign in.
RUN DETAILS: An early 220km run for a 10.30am breakfast at the old Sofala Gaol. From Richmond the route is across the Blue Mountains on the Bells Line of Road to Lithgow followed by a run to Bathurst away from the highway through Tarana, O’Connell and The Lagoon. From Bathurst we head for Sofala on the Peel Road via Wattle Flat, the route is sealed all the way to the rustic and heritage listed village of Sofala.
SOFALA: In the 1850’s the run organiser’s family spent some profitable years in Sofala, the oldest inhabited gold town in Australia, which had a population of around 40,000 at its height that has since fallen back to less than 100 current residents. Though gold mining ceased some time ago there is gold to be found amongst its occupied and abandoned buildings in the village and the relics, tools and machines that litter the surrounding area. Some occupied buildings are preserved in their ageing patina such as the Royal Hotel with the symmetry of an Ettamogah Pub. Some are open air museum pieces whilst others have been restored and renovated such as our breakfast venue.
OLD SOFALA GAOL CAFE: The Sofala Gaol was built during the gold rush to house villains before they were sent to Bathurst. The Old Sofala Gaol, keeping one original cell, has been renovated into a cafe with internal and open veranda dinning that incorporates a gift and curio shop. The recent improvements include B&B accommodation. For the MX5 BreakFast Club the proprietors will provide a special breakfast menu that will be posted on the Forum in the weeks leading up to the run.
RSVP: We have been asked to cap the numbers to 40 persons as there is insufficient internal space for more in the event of cold or inclement weather. Breakfast costs $25.00 a head including a small donation to the Clubs breast and prostate cancer charities. Please go to “More Info”.
There are overflow options. If the weather is fine then using the veranda and interior seating increases capacity to around 60 people. A second option is selecting a bite to eat at the souvenir take away shop next to the pub on the high road in the heart of the Sofala CBD.
Registration: Participants need to register and pay as provided on the “More Info” post in the Club’s Event’s Calendar A running list will be posted on the Forum thread in the weeks leading up to the event.

Mia Culpa. I suspect I morphed to become Mr. Malaprop. The code is AFL and it is my behind exposed to ridicule.
Having said that, like a good (ie grubby) politician, I must find someone to blame. I have chosen Microsoft whose spell checker is a double agent for poor literacy and Windows 7 is not a panacea of all things good about word processing as it does not have a crucial function that checks what you type is the word you intended to convey. Shame on you Bill Gates.
Sorry Robert, your only mistake was to accept the wording given to you by a lawyer. If I had chosen a life of crime I would be familiar with the spelling and would not have wrongly spelt jail.

Re: MX5 BREAKFAST CLUB – BREAKIE IN GAOL – 10 APRIL 2011
Coffee up date,
Due to some members now meeting this run at Lithgow. I suggest this group meet at the turn off of Magpie Hollow rd and Great Western Hwy , as this will be regroup point. I will, depending on the weight (mx5 is all about saving weight) bring some extra coffee . For this meet up.
If i wasn't driving I would have a wee nip of single malt in the coffee as well. Sorry cant do.
I apologise with the misspell goal and gaol . I also take the blame . Fun and games.

Re: MX5 BREAKFAST CLUB – BREAKIE IN GOAL – 10 APRIL 2011
I finally got around to registering for an event using the new IMG secure facility from the Club's Event Calendar. It works but is possibly misleading as is states on first entering the site words the effect "You must be a member to be covered by insurance". The statement is true but:-
1. The run to the Old Sofala Gaol Run is a BreakFast Club Run and open to all who register not just members.
2. You do not have to be a member to proceed to register on line through the Club’s Event Calendar at https://www.clubsonline.com.au/eventsre ... OrgID=4704
3. As the breakfast venue has a cap on numbers, registering is advisable if you want a seat at a breakfast table in the Old Sofala Gaol.
The Old Sofala Goal Cafe can only accommodate 40 under cover so the run has been capped at that number in case it is cold and/or wet on the day. If the venue is booked out there is nothing stopping anyone from joining the run and having breakfast in the village.
If the weather is fine on the day then there should be room at the gaol for all. There is one or more alternate venues for a breakfast on the main street of Sofala.
Robert is working on a return run after breakfast up to Ilford then down the Castlereagh Highway to Lithgow and the Bell Line of Road. Robert will post particulars before the day of the run.

Re: MX5 BREAKFAST CLUB – BREAKIE IN GAOL – 10 APRIL 2011
The proprietors of the Old Sofala Gaol Cafe need to get some idea of numbers which they have capped for indoor seating to the first forty (40) persons to register thereby ensuring that the registered participants are all under cover if the weather is cold or inclement on the day.
I am organising to serve up a premium COE coffee with or without milk when we stop for a convenience/rest, revive & survive break at Tarana about half way to our breakfast venue.
Below is a list of people who have paid and whose registration particulars have trickled through from IMG by the time of this post. If you have logged on to the Club Events Calendar & registered or intend on joining the run, taking pot luck on the availability of surplus indoor seating, then could you please number and add you name with your coffee preference to the list:-
1. Midori - 1 black coffee
2. Robert - 1 black coffee
3. BadBong - 1 black coffee
4. Baz10 - 1 white coffee
5. DWJ24 - ?
6. Judith Wheaterly - ?
5. Red93 - ?
6. Loray-Freeman - ?
7. Robert Collins - ?
8. Robyn Collins - ?
9. Stuart King - ?
10. Caryl Rorke - ?
