Your risk, but they will hit you for that overlap the next time you're pulled over. A friend of mine did the same thing years ago and copped quite a heavy fine for that one. To be honest the tint band did end up annoying him while driving.

Other options are to remove some of the foam padding from the base of the drivers seat so that you sit lower, or get a Sparco Sprint or similar which will also sit you much lower.

I chose the foam ectomy option on my NB8B so I could fit with a helmet on.
I cut about 40mm from the base and some from the back.
The seat is now more comfortable and I don't feel I'm peering out from under the windscreen header. :D

 Not if you get it approved, which can be done fairly easily, unlike getting windscreen tint approved  :)

i dont need to get windscreen tint approved, its legal as it is.

BUT if i go too far down the windcreen it becomes illegal.

i can also cut a CM off my windscreen wiper (need new ones anyway) so that should give me the desired clearance....

will take pics thursday morning for you.

Which was my point.... You said you're going to put tint down as far as going into the arc of the wipers. Do what you like though mate, no one here cares if you get fined for it, or get wiped by your insurance if you make a claim which they attribute to illegal tinting or too small wipers... By the way, do you know what the ADR's are for windscreen wiper sizes??

there is no specific ADR for winscreen wipers anymore.

The specific ADR for windscreen wipers and washers was 16/00, but was incorporated into ADR 42/05 (general safety requirements)

Here is the ADR (42/05):
24. WINDSCREEN WIPERS AND WASHERS

Every motor vehicle having a windscreen must be fitted with a power-driven windscreen wiping system. This provision does not apply to LA, LB, LC, LD or unenclosed LEM vehicle categories.

Every motor vehicle having a windscreen wiping system must have a windscreen washing system that can direct water on to the windscreen within the area swept by the windscreen wiper.

The device or devices for operating the wipers and washer must be able to be controlled by the driver in the normal driving position.

also, with reference to your "field of view" here is the relevant info from ADR 42 about vision

12. FIELD OF VIEW

12.1. A motor vehicle must not be so constructed or equipped nor must anything be affixed thereto in such a manner as to prevent the driver from having an adequate view of traffic on either side of the vehicle and in all directions in front of the vehicle to enable the vehicle to be dríven with safety.

12.2. No motor vehicle must be so constructed such that the ‘Seating Reference Points’ of any passenger seating position is more than 100 mm in front of the driver’s seating position when both ‘Seats’ are in the rearmost position of adjustment.

12.3. No motor vehicle must be constructed to provide seating for a passenger at the right-hand side of the driver.

so basically i cant see any legal requirement that says i cant do what i am doing...... the tint should only be going down to about where the top of the rear vision mirror is stuck to the winscreen......

i think this is a good read, so i have attached a link to the ADR for you

well i had the window tint done this morning.

i am happy with the way the windscreen went.

Its like driving with a permanent half sized sun visor..... that you can see through.

and from the outside, it just looks black.

ill take more pics later, i was a little late for work.

yeah

i just didnt want to be that illegal.

i dont mind bending a rule, but didnt want to do the whole windscreen

mate has a black yaris 10% all round and 35% on his windscreen, its ok to drive, especially around sydney with so many street lights.

I was looking at my wipers yesterday and realised they actually go all the way to the top of the windscreen! This means if you can only tint the area that does not fall into the wipers arc, then you can only tint maybe 2mm of the windshield...

That said, I've been driving up and back from ballarat every day due to uni and the sun is a killer. I'm booked in for a 20% tint all round and the top 10% of the winscreen band too. I'll put up some pics on monday/tuesday.

Do you have any photos of outside the car?

Indeed i do.

after driving home last night, and to work this morning, i had the sun directly where the visor would go...

i am pleased to announce that the 10% tint did wonders of blocking the sun!

i had much better vision too than if i had used the crappy sun visors that come with the car! because i can still see through the tinted band!

Now this mod is technically illegal, as my wipers to come across the tinted area, but really, the only area that we are talking about is where the etag is, behind my rear vision mirror!!

I am just goign to have to hope that any copper has his judgemental hat on when i am pulled over, and uses his judgement to see that even though its technically illegal, booking me is just pointless, as its pretty obvious there is no safetly issues.....

time will tell.....

My phone (where the other picture is) is playing up.... will post it soon.

If the sun strikes you directly in the eyes a tint does not help- you have to block it. If you are convinced that sun visors are merely useless accessories then we all have funny ideas.

Well for the most part I get sun from the sides and as you know, the visors don't actually meet the window at the side. So why even have them twist.
