take out the flywheel and shave it like a pussy. just the big ugly bits on the outside. Then check your valve timing is as close to spec as possible. massive improvement in torque from 5000 to 7000. good for overtaking???? Cheap mod for real results. But other then that these B6 is just too small to give you the power to weight you get from a Lotus running the 2.0l. sorry, my friend took me for a drive in his Elise and now I hate my MX5... It feels like nothing more then a 323 with the engine facing the right direction.... Turbo would be the best $ spend... As long as you have a long nose. The short nose are prone to letting then front main bearing go. This info came from my engine machinist... Has been fixing a few broken bottom ends that got turbo'ed.
Apart from Mazda............ trust nothing else...

Which lotus' are 2.0L? The newer Elise and Exige use the 1.8L 2ZZ-GE Toyota engine.

i have been doing at bit of research on short nose crank issues ,mazda issued a different part no for crank lt bolt due to the short one being used,my engine is up to 260000km no smoke evident and still wants to rev
how much do you pay for an elise!

Whats wrong with you? are you joking.. i sure hope so. Ive dríven an elise and been dríven in an exige and theres no way an elise or exige handles or goes better than my 5. Is yours completely stock or something? sure the elise manages a better comfort to handling ratio but theres no way a stock elise outhandles an mx5 with proper suspension. Not even close.
And you obviously havent been for a run in a budget turbo 5 putting down 'just' 200-250hp. Complete including car cost for well under ten grand and in a straight line much faster than most v8's.

I think the Lotus V MX5 needs to be started in a different forum. Sorry... And yes the the series 1 elise is only a 1.8 not 2.0... my bad. I might also add then it is unfare to compare naturally aspirated to forced induction when doing comparisions. I think it is also poor to do a price / power to weight comparison.

If you are in the market for an impractical sports cars the lotus and the mx5 should both be considered. We could argue further the handling and drivng techniques required also even the cost of parts and panels. look forward to this discussion in another board index.

I wonder if Toyota engines are a viable alternative drop in.
My Corolla's 1.8L 7AFE isn't bad for low down torque and I can only imagine the newer 1.8's are even better.
In it's current state, my poor Mixy is will only just out handle my corolla and definitely will not beat it in a straight line.
But to be fair my Corolla is in much better condition and state of tune :)
Oh dear, the wick in the engine's gone out.

A friend of mine just transplanted the new celica engine into his mr2.

Thats a quick engine, 140kw actually.
