What colour for hardtop ?
I have a British Racing Green NA6 and I just picked up a red hardtop. I am about to get it painted and I have two options.
1 Paint it black, may be easier to sell later
2 paint it BRG like the rest of the car .
What do you guys think.

id go green
if you had a white or silver car id say black
but since your car is a darker shade, id say go with the body colour

Re: What colour for hardtop ?
How long do you plan in keeping the car? If quite a while, then paint it the same colour as the car.
I notice hard tops sell in the forum irrespective of the colour. I have to admit, black do sell quicker. But other colours will also sell. I also notice price (irrespective of colour) are about the same. Hard tops with demister usually fetch slightly more.
But in the long run, the condition of the hard top is what sells it. As a buyer, I'd choose a great condition hardtop with the wrong colour anytime over a hardtop with the right colour but has cracks/chips, deteriorating interior trim or shrunken rubber seals.
So make sure you look after it.
That's my 2c opinion.

Check out the "Post your GREEN Miata/Roadster/MX-5 " thread on Club Roadster: http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=10204
OR Scuba_Steve's beautiful NB: http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=40559
This should convince you that matching BRG is the way to go (just about any other colour looks best in black though, but not on a BRG).

Re: What colour for hardtop ?
BRG will look very smart on the car as it matches. It will also be a selling point if you decide to sell the car.
Black matches pretty much anything so will be saleable on it's own if you want to get rid of it and it will still look okay on the BRG body.
Black will absorb heat very quickly but it is probably no worse than the BRG. For a daily I would not fancy a black or dark roof with no AC! I am saving up for a hardtop and even though my car is BRG I will paint the roof white...It's a track car anyway but anything to keep the heat down in the car!
Matt black will be a massive pain in the arris to live with, dirt sticks to the texture of the paint and you can not do anything more than pour water over it to clean it. Wiping it or trying to polish it pretty much removes the matt finish straight away.
You could go with a satin finish or you could get a matt vinyl wrap which I have read is easier to live with than matt paint. A vinyl wrap is also a good option if the roof is in average condition and you want to hide it. You could also get a carbon fibre effect wrap.

Another vote for BRG.
With a matched colour it look likes it is supposed to be on your car, rather then a seperate part. There is a BRG with a BRG hardtop who lives near me, it looks great!

I am leaning towards BRG after reviewing a lot of online pictures. It looks so bad in Red.

Re: What colour for hardtop ?
I have had a few over the years and think green is the pick but also silver looks great while IMHO black looks terrible!
Each to their own i expect.A mate borrowed my green top to see if he liked the hardtop concept and it looked great on his white car so I quite like the different top colour. Mid blue on white also looks sensational

Re: What colour for hardtop ?
well you take a mould off a standard one.
then you construct out of carbon/kevlar/fibreglass a hard top
then you coat it in 2-pac for pimpness
then add 1 custom made rear window
then attach to the car, followed by satisfied look as YOUR THE BOSS.
All bullshit aside, you just make them.....

Re: What colour for hardtop ?
hmmm now thats not a bad idea.
Just in discussions with my Uncle about making a carbon top....
It looks like its giong to be WAY too much work for a 1 off... but if i can do it for the right price it still might be worth while.
i just cant justify 2,300 for one
alternativley i might go 1,500 for a OEM one (including a respray to titanium)
