I do ok on my Australian 195/50/15 RE001's. I actually went from Yoko Semi's to the RE001's AND fitted stiffer swaybars and had a dramatic improvement on my lap times.

Yes - the swaybars were probably the reason for the better times but the only place I found the RE001's let me down was under hard braking where I couldn't brake as late or as hard.

Now the NA6 is pushing a fair bit more power it will be interesting to see how I go with them next time the club heads to the track.

Speaking of RE001's and their performance in the wet:

Yesterday at the club track day it was fairly wet and I had a lot of trouble with traction in the corners, after spending about half the day spinning out I lost confidence in the tyres and started eyeing off what other people were using. I then checked my tyre pressures which had dropped from when I checked them last to 25.5psi. Now I was a bit of an idiot to do a track day checking everything BUT tyre pressures but they're normally so consistant I didn't check them this time.

I upped the pressure to 36psi for my last two sessions and the RE001's held on very well, confidence returned 110% and I gave challenge to cars running semi-slicks. Maybe this reputation of poor weather performance is related to the tyre pressures used by the relative owners because it was a night and day difference for me!

For what it's worth, my dad's just put Taiwan-made RE001's on his MGA - 195/60/15, from memory. Will let you know what they're like once we've run an event or two.

At 25.5psi


I could do these corners easily with confidence at 36psi.

As a slight aside, without PP2's being made anymore, the new version is Pilot Sport 3. Despite the sizes listed on the Michelin Australia website, Michelin Australia have advised me that 205/45/16 are available within Australia!! Good news for those of us with NB8B wheels :) I'm yet to ask my local tyre guy though...

I have ps3's on my other car. A very good tyre indeed.

Supreme Blue NB8B, 1:16.98 at Wakefield when stock, but it's not stock any more...
