So... I had a bit of 'fun' yesterday, as you can read a couple of posts back a few months ago I was lucky enough to get a NB roof with a broken rear window with thanks to the generosity of Fattima and a rear window with thanks to BigDog. I went and got the window sewn into the roof and hey presto, a really nice NB roof for much less than what one is worth... However, as the photo below shows the stitching started to come apart around the curve of the window on both sides which is the area which takes the most stress... There is no stitching there on a normal NB roof. This also led to a small hole in the corner window part of the roof getting quite a bit larger. I took the roof back to the guy who did it, in order for him to fix it I had to take the roof out again... Oh joy..!
So let the nightmare begin.... I honestly thought it wouldn't take too long for the roll bar and roof to come out (I've done it enough times after all...) but this time I had the complication from hell, one of the nut and bolts that the roll bar used had seised severely, I don't know what I did when i put it on but it was bad... To the extent that I managed to grind out the teeth off a decent quality socket trying to get the nut off... After an hour and a half of cursing (I even got my dad in when he got home to assist with the cursing) we finally resorted to hacksawing off the head of the bolt, although even this was a pain as it was a high tensile bolt...
Finally it got to here, i was so excited to be holding this at the time....
From there on it was nice and easy to get the bar and roof out and the roof is now at the trimmers. It was funny driving the car today without any roof (soft or hard) or the roll bar, the weight reduction was quite noticeable actually, I was also quite low on fuel too and the car felt significantly quicker than it ever has before... I certainly know why people look to save as much weight as possible now.
All naked
With the hardtop on (I forgot how much I like the look of the car with the hardtop..!)
My clean interior
My orange brace (need to take one with a proper camera to show properly, not the phone like all of these are)
