I am after some advise as to what my problem or cause can be. I had the MX serviced(80,000km) the other week. Since that was done I have been experiencing the motor running rough at idle and, when moving off from a start in, first there is a hesitation and the motor dies requiring me to give it a heap of right foot on the go pedal. Could the dealer have plugged it into the computer and dialed in the wrong setting? Any ideas on this problem would be great as it is booked in for Tuesday to have the problem sorted. All information that I have at hand will help me with the service dept. I have checked the plugs plus all connections etc. HELP!

Which MX5 is it? From service kms I'm guessing NC, but may be it's a low km older MX5?

Just found an old post of yours - it might be something that's been done or not done during the recent 80k km service or it could be coincidental, but have certainly heard of a similar problem. Difficulty is that it could be one of a few things. Probably best to let them run diagnostic checks to identify it, but from some old posts I was reading yesterday, it might still be a bit hit & miss. But coilpacks are a common problem on the NB8A.

Sounds suspiciously like the shop has failed to reconnect something, like say the MAF or a vacuum hose or something...

Thanks all for the advise. Have checked all visable connections etc. Took her for a bit of a run yesterday with some new fuel in her. Seems a little better but still not quite right. May have got some dirty fuel?? or a injector may have had a bit of a blockage? According to the service report they added a fuel system cleaner to the tank. Will still take her into the shop tomorrow for them to run a diagnostic plus check the coil packs & leads. Will let you all know.

Something could be dirty, like if they left the intake open overnight the AFM could of possibly got dirty? Wouldnt hurt to spray it anyway with some contact cleaner. $25-$30 from most auto stores.
Check all the connections in the ignition system are all plugged in snuggly and spray them as well with the contact cleaner.
Other wise a long shot fix could be a putting a can of upper engine cleaner through the engine. Search for more info on it. You have to get the cleaner from Subaru...

I have done what I can. The 5 is now down at the service dept. And yes I had thought of running the Subaru cleaner through to see if that helps.
