but you'll be putting more wear & tear on moving parts within the cassette player

Most enthusiasts fall into the "no mods" or "lots of mods" categories. The term 'purist' also gets bandied about a bit. With very common cars like the MX5 its probably not very important whether you change things or not from a 'resale value' point of view however I guess we enthusiasts like to think there are some 'unmolested' examples around for posterity and as a 'reference point'.

It cost about $10 delivered from eBay. This is how I use my MP3 player with my OEM NA8 cassette/radio. It surprisingly works very well.
