how to setup a twin sidedraft carbs on a na6

Postby spikey » Wed Feb 02, 2011 2:14 am

I bought this kit about 4 years ago and never fitted it, I will be taking out my b6 engine soon, but would like to see how it goes with this setup, it came with the manifold linkages and fuel reg all ready to bolt on, but what do I do with the ecu, fuel? I know it is a long shot,if you can help it would be great.
Thanks
Terry

The first question in my mind is WHY?
Do you really want to lose performance, increase fuel usage and make the car illegal?

While it sounds romantic to have an old-school twin carb set-up on your car, the reality is that you will have a bugger of a time trying to get them to work with your ECU, if it is at all possible anyway, and if Mr Plod looks under your bonnet, he'll give you a bright yellow sticker to put on your windshield, which will force you to put back the fuel injection and take the car for an RTA inspection in order for it to get the defect sticker taken off.

What I would do if I was you, is to have the whole set-up chrome plated and mounted on a plinth so you can look at it with glowing eyes.
It won't do any good on your car.

Either that, or buy an old car and put them on it, instead of your 5.

Sorry to sound harsh, but that is the reality.

I am fully on board with Benny on this. Tuning and understanding carbies is something for someone who takes a long time learning about them. Set up of carbies for non standard applications can be a money pit.

Thank you for your input,I did grow up in the carby era, so I'm familiar with tuning them, but just how to run a computer dríven car to this setup is my question, but probably too much effort to see how it runs ,Flyin Miata has informed me that my V8 parts will be here soon

Norm Garrett's book "Mazda Miata Performance Handbook" has a few pages on fitting carbies to NAs. Lots of tips on how to trick the ECU into behaving with SUs or Webers. Good results are possible for a track car but forget about it for street use.
