Hi Guys,
I'm looking to start hunting for a hardtop for my NC, but haven't actually seen one in the flesh yet and inspected how they mount to the car... nor can I seem to find a diagram showing it along with its parts ... and the guy I spoke with on the phone at mazda seemed quite clueless also.. I may have to go in and get one of their print out schematics..
Can anyone tell me whats required to fit one to an NC thats never had one on, regarding mainly latches and demister looms (is there a plug hidden away? or was it an extra button/option that needed to be installed by mazda) ... ??
I know I'll require 2x Frankenstein Bolts ($40ea from Mazda) and the front will clip to the windshield but can anyone tell me whether the NC hardtops require side latches/Catches/plastic trim modifications like the older NA/NB hardtops required?
Cheers,
Luke.

According to this site HERE
You need 2 x OEM Hard Top Frankenstein Boltfor 2006+ Miata MX-5's
and a 2006+ Hard Top Mounting Kit
Good luck with finding a hardtop for sale for the NC as they appear to be more expensive than the ones for the NA/NB

Thanks de bounce, thats the side latch info I was looking for ...
I'm not really in a rush for one but I'll just keep an eye out for one and am just trying to figure out what I need.
Does anyone know about the demister connection?
Cheers,
Luke.

The corner trims that clip over the seatbelt top mount are different for the side mounts on the hardtop.
The softop demister plug fits the hardtop.

Re: NC Hardtop Fitment Query - Bits needed?
Thanks for that.
Is the loom something seperate I have to purchase though or is it there but tucked away under the carpet?
And the trim piece you mention, is it similar to the NA's where there was some pre-formed holes in the trim etc to match the catch striker plate...? Anyone have pics? I'm still not 100% clear on where they actually mount, I'm assuming its in a similar place to the NA...?
Cheers,
Luke.

Re: NC Hardtop Fitment Query - Bits needed?
What I've found is this... basically for anyone with an 05,06 NC never having had a hardtop on it you require...
2x frankenstein bolts ($40rrp from MAZDA)
2x Side striker plate ($160rrp each side from MAZDA)
(NF28R1851C = LHS, NF28R1841C = RHS)
2x new plastic trims to suit striker plates L&R.
(Or cut out originals, yet to price)
(If you happen to need the actual flip latches for the sides these retail for $800 each side, although you'd be unlucky if a top did not come with these)
And just a note that I never realised.. but the OEM hardtops appear to come with 2 small ridges running front to back on the roof unlike the smooth finish of the NA/NB tops.
I will post some pics when I find some for those not in the know.
Cheers,
Luke

Re: NC Hardtop Fitment Query - Bits needed?
Hey everyone,
I've managed to pick up a hardtop over the weekend in mickey mouse condition and just need the fitment bits now.
For theose interested, after getting the top you are unable to fit it to the car with just frankenstein bolts and the front clip, unlike the possibly of this option with the NA's prior to purchasing side latches. The problem is the side locating pins on the NC top interfere with the plastic trim that it sits on so to fit it you either need to buy all the appropriate parts (trim/striker) or remove the side trims to be able to temporarily fit it.
I contacted Mazda about the required parts and the prices are as follows.
Demister Short cord NF77-67-SH0 = $50
RHS trim Cover NF28-68-520 = $70
LHS trim Cover NF28-68-550 = $70
Frankenstein Bolt NF28-R1-38X = $70 each
RHS Striker Plate NF28-R1-841 = $134
LHS Striker Plate NF28-R1-851 = $134
Total = approx $600
