Not to be rude or anything but there are a lot better superchagers out there than the JR. I don't have one on my car, but I am in the early stages of getting one. And what I have read on the forums is that they don't provide a lot of power, and there are problems with the parts it comes with (Can someone back me up on this?). It might be a good idea to redo your homework here, as a supercharger will cost a bit more and you dont want to get it wrong.

Also bring it back in the suit case might be a problem. No doubt customs will pull your mate over (both in the US and AUS) for having a massive metal object in his suit case and you will most likely still have to pay duty on the product. But you will save on shipping :)

Just make sure you give you mate a case of beer for draging that thing around. :NB8B:

Hi, new online here. As I have helped fitted a turbo to my son in laws mx5 1.6 and later did mine I think I have some useful information.
Bens mx5 we fitted a GReddy TD05H 16g. 150RWK. Nothing until about 3,200 and then everything, impressive power but have to be very careful on wet or slippery surfaces.
Mine we fitted a Mitsubishi TD05H 14b, 148 RWK, more controlled power starting around 2300 but smooth and pulls hard right thru to the red. Total cost $5000. I did all the work myself except the tuning and no way could you do it for under that.Except for the ECU most was second hand. New ECU, Exhaust, intercooler, blow off valve, larger brakes, injectors, larger radiator,manifolds (dont buy stainless steel off e-bay, the manifold cracks and the dump pipe does not let the wastegate exhaust out and caused boost to rise I got 175 RWK before the tuner sent me off to fix the pipe he didn't want to blow up the poor little 1.6)

I was going to do a 1.8 turbo,but have change direction completely,this kit was bought from japan,It is a HKS 2560 turbo kit,manifold and dump pipe,also have the Greddy Front mount kit with alloy piping for a na8,it may have to be modified for a Nb8,selling the lot for $2300 delivered,it is very cheap for a genuine Japanese made kit,i will also throw in a set of 360cc Gtx injectors.

I have to slightly disagree with this, Ive had my car insured and its highly modded and as long as you do it by the book have the proof it will get insured. And mine isnt that much more , actually I know its cheaper than some people are paying for a stocker NB8B. Shop around.

Did you have to go through emissions testing BJ as I thought your car was an SP?

Generally if you want it completely road legal, insurance legal the SE/SP is significantly easier. Passing emissions tests is generally considered incredibly difficult. Here's an old thread which is probaly a bit out of date now but gives you a ballpark idea of what's involved having a legal turbo conversion where insurance would cover you if you had an accident.

At first no then the build got slightly out of hand, and the budget well that got NUKED....Then we made the hhuuge decision to go ballistic BUT I wanted to make it driveable and that meant I was on first names with the engineering and the testing guys , I still think to this day my bank balance caused the GFC everytime I went to either retune, re-test or re-engineer.

But done right you can jump in the drivers seat and no full well your covered and if anything did happen , firstly hope you or anyone else is ok, know full well they arent going to sue you for everything you (well the bank)owns and you can enjoy driving
