Quick update

The block and crank are now ready to go the machine shop, just waiting for my new clutch and fly wheel to arrive, so that they can all be balanced together.

Once I get onto the re-build, I might do a video series for info.

Nice build ! are you going to get up graded valve springs? If so where from ?

Not thought too hard about the head at the moment, but will probably go for double springs and solid lifters, but it also depends on how far I can stretch my budget.

Maybe not the best stuff around (GripForce), but people in the states seem to be reliably using this stuff. Clutch is rated to 200f/lb of torque, so should be ample for what I am doing. Fly wheel is 7lb lighter than stock. All for less than $500 delivered :D

Hi - I am a software developer, but can remember my dad having cars in bits since I was a kid. My dad is a plaster, but would turn his hand to anything.

Most of my experience comes from owning very fast turbo cars that go bang (I am very hard on engines, hence stayng NA). See http://picasaweb.google.com/sigratton/MyCars#, but most experience comes from build my rally car - http://picasaweb.google.com/sigratton/My205#

Basically motorsport on a budget is my thing and I get a lot out of doing the diy stuff. My car is like the Millennium Falcom - not much to look at, but has got it all the right places (well it will have when I am finished :D )

Update - forgot to mention that I have put some new discs and pads on recently

Thought about upgading etc, but really the brakes have never been an issue for the stuff that I do - they are much better now, much better feel to them.

I got a bit bored today and since there is nothing I can do on my engine at the moment (waiting for parts), I thought I would build a front splitter and flat under tray to help the air flow. The front sub frame hangs about 100mm lower than the bumper on a NA. The primary reason for this project is to (hopefully) reduce the drag caused by the poor air flow under the car and secondly I might generate some downforce.

Luckily there a few factory holes and mounts to help. there are 3 captive bolts at the end of each chassis rail and the front lower wishbone mounts have handy hole in to mount to.

I am going to brace the back of the subframe while I am messing in this area, you can see the stubs for it. Pic above is work in progress, the idea is to weld a frame for the spitter board to the front of the two poles and then trianglate with the chassis rails next to the radiator to transmit any downforce it might produce to the chassis. I will do some more next week.

These are apparently very good for keeping your engine in one piece, unfortunately is weighs 1kg more than the stock assembly :frown:

I need to get different water pump and alternator drive wheels too.

I thought those super dampers were only for high hoursepower turbo cars?
What it your reasoning behind it, as they are not cheap?
