The SP is even more awesome a car than I first thought.
Just out of interest AVO don't seem to offer a turbo setup for 2001+. The VVt must have foxed them.
I note that the ''Slightly Enhanced" model both dispenses with VVt and relieves the compression ratio.
Would supercharging suit the VVt engine better?
Thanks for all your help guys. It is a horrendously expensive operation to recreate Horsley's little toy.

Sorry to resurect.
I'm thinking of adding a turbo to my NB8B or selling it and buying an SP.
I cant get much for it if I sell, it's around 240,000 km.
Or I could hand the keys over to AVO, as I don't have the skills to install a turbo myself.
If I buy an SP I can install the clutch myself and I have an LSD in a box somewhere.
Help me make up my mind.

As far I know the SP was a re-mapped stock ECU. It definitely retained the VVT as well Wun.
Personally I like my car way too much to consider swapping it up for a stock SE/SP and starting over again...especially when I want to modify it so I'm not really saving much money as the stock exhaust, intake, intercooler etc would be wasted (unless you find a pre-modified example). Basically how hard is it for you to get engineering on your current car with a turbo kit in Vic ? Have you seen any SE/SP's for sale you really want and are in the right price range?

people are replacing or piggy backing with the stock SP ECU for a few reasons:
- they are a modified OEM ECU with proprietary tune by chiptorque. some owners have gone back to chiptorque for a retune with good results, but it doesn't come cheap.
- it runs quite rich. pops & farts even if you drive it like your grandmother would. adds character IMO. haha
- there is an issue with feathering the throttle under boost at mid to high RPM. apparently the fix requires replacing the MAF with a MAP sensor.
- cold start & low RPM (< 2000) tune is not the best.
as mentioned by Hellmun, they were tuned with the VVT activated. the SP project started with the NB8A, but they scrapped it and practically started again with the introduction of the NB8B, the flexibility of the VVT being one of the major reasons.
despite the 'issues' listed above, they are great cars. as a niche stock turbo model, it's surprisingly cheap to insure as well.

I think your definition of 'EASY' is relative.
You seem to have used the top components and also the top builder in the country. I would blush to think of the cost.

Hey wun911 cost approx 15k which isn't too bad if you think about it. Its getting pretty close to 3 years now since ive done the work and the car has been awesome. There is no way it can be done any cheaper and be as reliable as its been.
