(Another) Brake pads recommendation needed
Getting the car serviced with Mania soon.
Will definitely have the brakes bled this time.
Might also need to replace the pads. Looking for suggestions:
- Minimum noise
- Great stopping power
- Quite durable
- Won't damage disc

For me, to satisfy all those criteria for both road and track with 170rwkw, guess what? Standard Mazda pads. Yup. Really. Outbrakes everything else at Sandown (at the expense of getting the driver's side front tyre a tad warm). Reckon there has to be a better way of getting them than at stealer prices though. Maybe someone'll chime in with the best way.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Just got new pads on mine and also went with the Mazda ones. I'll check the receipt and get a brand for you tonight.

Dunno. The garage just got them from the Mazda dealer.

Mazda ones are ceramic Akebono's from memory.

Another vote for the Mazda pads
They are simotomo brand and the mazda part No is NAY1-33-23Z
and they work great on the road and the track

Russellb talked me in to them, supplied and installed them, so I'll just trust his part number there and not bother checking my receipt now

I'm gonna go against convention and say the Mazda pads are CRAP!
Mine melted after 3 track days to nothing on the front. They had ~ 7-8mm on them when they started and got down to about 1mm.
They were not just glazed when they came out, more like crystallised.
These were the original factory pads from my SE. I believe they were Simitomo or something like that and were painted Blue.
I have also been told that there were 2 types of Mazda pads, a crap one and the good one, maybe mine had the crap one, which I would find really odd considering they were factory fitted SE ones.
I have been using Hawk HPS pads for the road now and Blues for the track and am much happier.
The HPS pads are quiet, gentle on the rotors and give decent breaking power. Been proven through the Royal Nation Park and Galston Gorge, much better than the OEM pads were.
The Blues are just ludicrous, not for road use in any way, shape or form.
I got mine from the USA, from Goodwin Racing. Just email Brian there and he can organise payment via paypal, if you want to get the Hawk's. The shipping charge is normally $17 US when he does it through paypal rather than the site.

As above, I was of the understanding that there are two types of Mazda pads - one genuine, and the other "recommended", or some such crap. I'm pretty sure the ones with the blue backing plate are the fairly ordinary ones. The better ones were branded Sumitomo, but perhaps they make both types, and the blue ones are the budget option...
I was always happy with the standard Mazda pads (not the blue ones) which included many track days without incident.

I agree . The BLUE Mazda pads are crap
I tryed them on the Rally SE and had no brakes after one stage
The BROWN Ones are the GO

I've been through a range of pads and best setup I've found for mine are the Endless Cc-x pads with DBA slotted rotors. These have now been replaced by MX72.
I've had the CC-x pads for a while now (3+ years) and they're still brilliant. You need one stop on a cold morning to get them into the temp range (50deg) but after that, great initial bite and modulation, quiet, low dust and NMX516 will attest to their stopping power.
