so a fruitful weekend was had and a new head unit was installed. As I mentioned elsewhere, being able to solder/heatshrink the wiring on the bench, not under the dash made my life so much easier.

This head unit, Alpine CDe101-e , has full iphone compatibility so I ran the cable into the console via the boot release "grommet". The head unit takes over control of the ipod so I dont need to touch the phone again. The charging voltage of this unit also charges the phone unlike some other brands.

Well the plunge was taken and the coilovers have been bought and installed.

The ride has improved heaps but keep in mind I am comparing it to standard shocks on King Springs so I cant say the coilovers I bought are any better/worse than anything else out there. They were cheap enough though

Im v happy with the purchase.

Unpacked the box and look what I find. Nice shiny coilovers and the crappiest photo ever. Must have been shaking with delight

The look. I will let it settle this week. This shot doesnt really show it as the left rear is in slight dip and the left front is on a slight hump but I think I need to drop the front another 10mm or so.

Changed over the shift boots today. When I drove the car home the day I bought it, I noticed the heat coming through the console. Down here in Tassie, that is not such a bad thing this time of year

This is all that was left of the big boot apart from the collar that was still on the gear stick. The small boot wasnt any better. I also sucked out the gear oil and replaced that along with the shift bush before putting my shiny new boots on.

So it has been a while since I had the camera out.

I havent done a lot to the car either. I raised the rear about 10mm now that the coilovers have well and truly settled and I may need to lift the front or roll the guards. Cheaper option is just to raise it back up a bit

I did get a parcel from Planet Miata which I was excited about. When I opened it, my missus just shook her head and couldnt understand my excitedness.

Yep, they sure do. I didn't buy them new but I did like what i saw when the wheels came up for sale.

Still have a few more things to do. Most of them are big ticket items (over $300) so things slow down. But I would like a hard top ( Im in tassie so i think that's fair), a bd bar, cai, cat back exhaust.

Great story so far Bauer, I know how you feel about the red reflectors, they really do make a nice touch on a Red one. It was one of the first things i did to my 5 :mrgreen:

So I gave it a bit of a clean and when you do that, out comes the camera.

Finally grabbed a pic of the steering wheel that has been in it for some time. Horn button only went in a few weeks ago.

I have owned the car for just over a year and still really enjoying having a car that is a real conversation piece (even if the topic is often my manliness). Being able to have something in the garage that I can play with again (been 20 years+) has made for genuine pleasure in ownership. I doubt I would be grinning as much if I had a car much more expensive that I was too scared to touch other than wash and drive. Also must put in a good work for the community here too. I visit daily and learn and enjoy all the time.

Bauer - Great looking car... Loving the Chaps on it and my mind is pretty much made up to get them.... I'm thinking the silver ones for my red 92.... hmmm not sure.

How are the Yellowspeed springs and shocks?

the yellowspeeds are working a treat. No problems at all. Like any coilovers out there, they really are too harsh for daily use but my daily use doesnt have to take me too far luckily.
