I've never heard of them either.. Sounds like a vacumn cleaner in reverse to me.. but apparently they exsist..

the first time i heard about them was when my excentric, genius without an education, bush mechanic, tech screw loving father told me he had baught one for his NA for $200.

He has already done some gahstly things to his NA including fabricating a new rear bar... out of wood! (pics to follow).

The thing is he occasionall pulls off these ridiculous ideas (the wooden bumber doesnt look that bad).

Now you have all the information i want to run a quick survey as to the predicted outcome of this project, the goal being increased power..

Definite fail. Would never be able to provide enough flow rate. Only way i could see it helping is if maybe the blower was connecting to some tubing tucked in where a FMIC would go and is thus supplementing normal flow by blowing cold right into the filter inlet or onto the pod if u got a pod. These 'chargers' have been bagged on forums for years!

But if your going to all that effort, why not just make a CAI. I did mine by cutting the crossover tube into just a short 90 deg section. Using a intercooler coupler to attach the MAF, drilling and jamming/silicone in the temp sensor in the coupler piece. Then after the MAF, running some flexible concertina 3 inch pipe for making custom intakes i got from repco (only like $30, its expandable from between about 300 and 900mm long and is bendy but keeps its shape really well). This pipe runs down and through a hole i cut in the undertray and then back up and in front of the raidiator and attaches to a pod.

Iv made my own mesh grille from supercheap mesh stuff and surrounded in u channel stuff from clark rubber (whole thing only cost like $30), so that should keep the pod from getting bugs and sticks on it. The pods got a heat shield, i face that forward so it will stop any rain getting blown in. Im sure the pod will get a little more dirty this way but its huge and shouldnt slow it down too much. If i want to clean it i can just cut the two zip ties that hold the grille in (hooked upto the tow hooks) and i can whip off the pod and give her a clean. This is the coldest CAI you will get and the upwards angle will ensure it stays dry up top, just dont try and do any creek crossings!

Wow, that is huge current draw. Pretty sure you would need to upgrade the alt if you wanted to pump tunes on any decent amped sound system while at WOT, which since my new exhaust is more often than not! My front splits run 110rms each and 380rms sub in the boot, so 600watts rms total. If the car is running at like 13.5V turned on then your looking at just under 50 amps ( P=I*V) for the sound system and when i play it really loud the headlights will dip slightly when im below 2k rpm. Id say the chargers would be putting quite a strain on the charging system.

Does anybody know the rating on the NB's alternator?? Im sure these chargers would be stretching their capacity a bit.

IIRC jaycar have a kit you can get and solder up that will auto kill the a/c when your at WOT, this would probably help somewhat with the current draw.

Yea thats insane. For all that stuffing around you'd be better off with a nitrous system. Would be interested to see if anyone has one installed or knows someone who does? Opinions?

I am guessing he has purchased an ebay china spec electric turbo in which case there is going to be a massive fail, if anything the car is going to be slower and the intake vacuum is going to spin the 'turbo' faster than its crappy bearings in its crappy motor can stand.

I have read articles on a new generation of electric turbos that also run an alternator/generator off the exhaust where a turbo would have been put.

The new alternator/generator produces real power to run a serious electric turbo. The theory seems to be that the electric turbo is easily controlled and can give boost from minimal revs, overcoming lag.

The theory seemed logical, but I have not read of one of these new generation electric turbos in operation ?

Hmm...I guess the electric fan can generate volume, but for it to really make a difference, it needs to be able to pressurize the air. So my guess is that it will help at low revs but beyond that?

Will be interesting to see dyno results.

the reason they dont work is that it takes 25 hp straight from the crank with no efficiency loss to power a blower, you just cant get 25 horsepower through an alternator, then through a battery and all the wiring into an electric motor that will fit into an engine bay.
