I kinda made the assumption it does, since they were standard elsewhere from 2008 on - however as I have learned the hard way recently, there are lots of differences between markets, even ones that make no sense.

will have to ask my workshop next time I'm there as I wouldn't know what an oil cooler looked like if it bit me in the proverbial :oops:

OK, Oil cooler is attached just aboce the oil filter via a sandwich plate.
There are a couple of water hoses that run forward and up to interconnect with the cooling system.
It's actually a heat exchanger.

A little more to ponder.
After a chat with Col at Ricol, I've decided to fit a thermostatic oil cooler sandwich plate and put a conventional radiator style oil cooler instead of the heat exchanger style.
We are both concerned that the cooling system will be under enough stress in Oz summers as is evident from some of the posts coming out of USA.
Good news is that there is now a big ally radiator available from Flyin Miata if required.
Might be a little crowded under the front with the intercooler as well...

One thing to keep on top of Sailor is the balance between core thickness and FPI (Fins per Inch)...a thicker core doesn't necessarily mean a higher heat transfer to the ambient air. If you maintain FPI and increase the core thickness, the ambient air flow pressure drop across the core will increase and thus reduce the cooling airflow across it. This is further affected by the fitment of other cores in front of it. I'm sure you'll get it sorted just keep this in mind. I'd look at ensuring your getting as much airflow through the core... ie. minimise the opportunity for air to bypass it.

Thanks for reminding me Danny, I'll keep that in mind.
I have considered the oil cooler install under the front guard if necessary.

BTW I'm chasing a section of wiring loom with the ECU plugs on it to make a plug in adaptor for the Xede so I don't need to hack into the wiring.

Hey Matt, you're getting the Cosworth internals, right?

Some inside info on such on Moto IQ which you might find interesting (they built a hybrid MZR/DISI engine for an ex. Panoz Le Mans car).

While Cosworth makes one of the finest pistons in the world, the factories also seem to put everything second to F1. The Mazda MZR pistons are made on the same machines by the same machinists as pistons for the CA2010 F1 engines.

Thanks Matt! Yes, complete Cosworth internals (pistons, rods, cams, rod bearings, valve springs.) The pistons are works of art! Also, the comment I got from the mechanic was that the Cosworth conrods look much more "substantial" (stronger) than the factory forged (NC2) rods, so I'm glad I got those too.

I wish I had more of an update on my car, but every time I think "only a couple more days" something else happens and I lose another week, or two. Right now am waiting on a replacement v-belt from the U.S ... (don't ask :evil:

)

Wat did you do about an ECU?
I´ve installed the Xede on the still std car and after an initial glitch it´s working well.

Adaptronic e420c is installed and working well :mrgreen:

A few more hours of fine tuning required (mainly cold start etc) and I may actually get my car back soon so I can start running in the new engine! only 11 months after starting this project...

noticed you changed tack and now have gone for a seperate engine ECU, assume the Mazda ECU now only controls ABS, etc.?

looking forward to seeing it in the flesh, maybe our 6 February Cruise?

I'm not sure I can make it on the 6th, but assuming nothing goes wrong, it will be at Dome Vic Park on Saturday :mrgreen:

Yes, the Mazda ECU controls everything except ignition and fuel. ABS, DCS/TCS, Cruise control etc work great.

I've got a 3800rpm limiter on while I'm running in the new engine and boy that comes up quick, even at half throttle :shock:

Still running in the engine, enjoying cruising around roofless again. I want to do around 2000km before doing the final tune. I'm nearly halfway there

It hunts a bit at idle, mostly due to the slightly aggressive cams, but it usually settles down. Other than that I have no problems to report. The next couple of weeks will be interesting :mrgreen:
