Cosworth supercharger for the NC

Postby Sailor » Tue May 11, 2010 11:24 pm

I'm currently having a dialogue with Ricol Automotive re the cost/feature benefits of the Xede piggyback and the Haltech Platinum 1000.
Xede will require splicing into the loom whereas the Haltech can be done as a plug in unit so it's easy to change back when the car is sold.
I'll be making the decision in the next week then a dyno run dead stock, install the new ECU and a full dyno tune.
That way I can track every gain I get from each mod along the way, starting with a RS header.
Should be an interesting exercise.

BTW, I plugged a Scanguage in and have run it all this week.
It's very obvious from AFR readings that the stock ECU will benefit from a little piggyback help.

Bullet's been bit!
Power run on the dyno on Friday at Ricol to see what comes up, then Xede and exhaust and a tune to see where we're at
Then...onward and upward :D

Subject: MX5 Supercharger Kit to Australia

Hi Robert

Thanks for the order, we should have that out Monday.

I still have the 4.1 ratio in both our cars.

You're on!
Will hopefully do the install when I'm off at Xmas if I can get the bits together, Susan will drive the Magna.
Will be treading gently, no track days till it's sorted with water injection and oil cooler and a really stable map.
Looking at fitting a 'proper' finned oil cooler but will need to see the intercooler in place to judge if it will fit.

Picking up pistons and rods while I'm on hols in US in January, then get around to building a really tough engine that can make real power and actually rev.

Friday will be interesting $88 for a power run will set the benchmark to see just how much it costs/kW from here on.

Don't wait too long.
Brian has just bought the last of the Cosworth units in stock and is selling at under $4k without the management system.
They will be produced in future by the manufacturer of the MP62.

Wow - Cosworth have certainly done a lot of back-pedalling since the release of the supercharger kit.

It seems odd they didn't do the tuning in-house and offer a turnkey kit.
Particularly since re-flashing the NC ECU is now on the table.

Isn't this the cause of some of the problems? It'll be interesting to see completion of the unit in development by GT Plus. http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=44525&start=15

Original Sniper tune has been blamed for a disaster or two but new tunes by DP and Moto East have apparently sorted the issues

I looked at the HKS development but like the OEM look of the Cosworth

This is what I read on the current sitch.

There is one other forced induction kit you never seem to hear about, and that is the Power Enterprise kit.
It is listed on their website though, so apparently they offer it.

It really is taking a long time with the new engine for these tuners to come up with off-the-shelf FI offerings.
Particularly out of Japan!

Congrats Sailor! It's about time we see some more FI NCs around here

Mine is installed and should be running "Real Soon Now(tm)" - it's been an enduring saga, starting with my original Cosworth order back in February - but I'm sure it will be very much worth the wait. :NC:

Hi Matt,
I waited and waited...when Brian dropped the price and the dollar climbed, I figured I couldn't wait any longer.
It will be interesting to compare notes :)
BTW I'm going the Xede route IIRC you were going Moto?

Damn I like those wheels, what are they again?

Yes indeed, I went through Moto-East - who have improved on the original Sniper tune, but using Sniper hardware. Mike has been great, very helpful and pleasant to deal with. Sniper / Delta Force Tuning, not so much

The wheels are Gram Lights 57f by Rays Engineering. They were an opportunistic buy from a fellow forum member, but I'm really glad I snapped them up

Hey Matt,
Does your NC2 have the oil cooler as std?
Can't decide if I want the Mazda OEM type or a proper finned one.
