How to stop the annoying ignition "Beeping"

Postby emexv » Tue Oct 26, 2010 12:22 pm

I have an NB that "Beeps" it's head off when I leave the keys in the ignition with the door open. Is there a way of disabling this beeping, I've tried turning the key on and off etc. but can't get it to stop
Cheers

Most definitely...

Undo the two screws that hold the bottom half of the steering wheel surround and drop it down to reveal the wiring.
There is a white connector with a brown and white wire (I think) going into it.
Unplug this. Refit surround and do up two screws. Enjoy the silence!!

All up about 3 mins of time..

This is one of the first things I did to my NB. Drove me nuts before that also...

Close the door or take the key out works too.

Let us know if it is the brown white wire. Would love to do this myself. Cheers.

Woo Hoo......all done. I thought I would get a bit clever and installed a small toggle switch. This way I can leave the beeper operational and avoid the missus locking the keys in the car and can turn it off whenever I want to.

Thanks again for the clue. All up about 40 minutes, what a great cheap, easy mod.

I would have been soooooooo pleased for this to work straight out of the box for my SE. But no such luck. There's a pair of white wires gong from the ignition switch to a connector block near the steering column. Disconnecting this doesn't stop the beeping though. And no sign of any other white wires.

So any thoughts anyone on how to do this on an SE?

What white wire Dave? See attached pics on how I did mine. Disconnecting this socket will not affect the headlights on buzzer so go ahead and unplug the damn thing. Oh, while you're at it, disconnect the socket under your bum...err...I mean under the driver seat to shut that pesky seatbelt off buzzer. These two nagging buzzers can drive almost anybody insane.

Dave, What Wuey said is correct (Obviously, he's done it). The wires were not white on mine and because of the light , or lack of it I can't tell you exactly what colour they were, although I think the wires going from the plug to the car loom had some blue about them. If the 2004 is the same as mine you will find there are two plugs. I firstly unplugged the same one as you as it's closest to the ignition drum. It isn't the right one. The right plug is on the other side of the steering column and is a bit harder to see. It's slightly larger than the one you would have unplugged first.

Thanks everyone, especially Wuey for the pics.

Just shows that even someone like me who can only sell things for a living can sometimes do something with his hands if someone does enough hand holding.

Silence. Golden.

And yes, the seatbelt warning sounds have been disabled from the day I was lucky enough to get the car.
