Focal Splits.

Hey guys,
Pretty basic and quick question, when I'm looking on Focals website (http://www.focalaustralia.com.au/) are the co-axial speakers what everyone calls splits or what...
I'm really not good with all this stuff yet but hopefully I will be able to help others out with my knowledge aswell soon enough. ;D

No. Coaxial speakers have two (or more) speakers in the one mount; while splits, or component speakers, have the tweeter and woofer (and any other speakers included in the set) as individual divers each with their own casing.

Coaxials are often easier to install, but won't perform as well as an equivalent set of splits.

Aah ok, thanks a bunch man.
If it wouldn't be too much to ask, would you be able to check out what the best component set for an NB Series from the K2 Power and Utopia BE sections would be?
Also, should I get an Amplifier for it (I'm not sure whether that's included or not...) and again not sure, an alternative Subwoofer?

Price isn't an issue and I don't mind changing anything else in the car if it is going to maximise the system and hense it's produced sound quality.

Geez, you're up to spend serious money aren't you..

I've got a pair of 165KR 6.5" and a matching Power (black) 2ch amp I might sell soon.

Brilliant sounding, but I don't keep my cars long enough to justify installing it and taking it out over and over again.

IMO you don't really need a subwoofer for general rock/pop/jazz with decent amplified splits
If doof-doof music's your thing, get a 12" and go nuts

Either way you go, if you're spending a decent amount (above $300 maybe?) an amp of some kind is necessary. I'd rather spend $500 on a pair of splits and $500 on amp than $1000 on splits.

Also, if you care about the sound quality more than performance, sound deadening is a must.
Make sure you get it installed and tuned by a good shop too, positioning of tweeter is so very important

I've got a pair of 8" focal splits, Alpine Imprint head unit and Alpine amp.

Cadence amp and 10" Pioneer sub mounted in custom made fibreglass enclosure in left gaurd (in boot).

Doors have had sound matting installed.

Not the best for track days but an awsome system to listen to. Everyone who has heard it can't believe you can get this kind of sound out of a two door. Loud enough to make your ears bleed if that's your thing. The 10" sub isn't what you would use if you like "doof doof" but does fill that base which you miss without the rear speakers.
