Cleaner was $18.90 from Denlo in Parramatta. I'll have to find some device capable of recording the output of the endoscope too...

Cleaner applied! Significantly more smoke than in Andrew's video, although nothing like the subaru video posted earlier...

Car seems to idle smoother.

It did highlight further problems, as the car produced quite a bit of smoke in the engine bay too! :shock:

Looks like I have a leak in the exhaust manifold or something. Could explain the power drop / funny smell I've been chasing for a few months now :oops:

While getting my car serviced yesterday, I took the opportunity to do the upper engine clean. Some smoke did come through but not as much as others I've seen elsewhere.

so yeah i did this over the weekend. have to admit i was a bit let down and felt a little ripped off that i didnt seem to get any smoke at all.

car does seem to run a little smoother now. but thats probably down to the oil change i did after using the cleaner

i think it's a cheap barometer to gauge the condition of your upper engine :wink:

Bit like the old days when we would give a few good squirts of Redex down the carby at the servo!

Man, there was a LOT of white smoke with Redex.
So much so, that you could hardly even see the car!

Either that or he didn't do it right. Pull your intake pipe off, lock open the throttle body, get a torch and make sure you coat the whole inside of the manifold. I even pull the plugs out and spray it onto the tops of the pistons.

Did mine yesterday before I serviced the car.

So I've decided to try this before my oil change. Didn't mange to get a can yesterday casue I got to Subaru spare parts after noon :evil:

Does anyone have a can of this Subaru Upper Engine cleaner they're willing to part with today?

Willing to pick it up within 20kms of 2204 and need it before noon.

Can replace or substitute for preferred cold beverage

So I finally managed to get my hands on one of these cans :evil:

, attemped it tonight with not much luck :cry:

1. Ran the engine to running temp = OK
2. Switch off engine = OK
3. Attempted to spray into 3 (marked in blue) different point in the manifold = Problem, when spraying the cleaner into the manifold, because they are L-shaped (marked in yellow), the cleaner doesn't get into the manifold without majority of the cleaner spilling out!

I'll try taking the intake pipe off tomorrow and spraying the cleaner directly on the throttle body and inside the manifold.

Otherwise, I'll just spray in the cleaner while the engine is running (safer?).

Any else have this problem on an NA6?

I had the same problem. Ended up just taking off the air intake and opening the throttle up with the engine off to spray it inside. Then started it up and pumped it through the valve with the engine running.

I still wanna find out what the proper way is to use it though...
