Need help with window problem

Postby marky210 » Sun Oct 03, 2010 12:50 pm

I just replaced my window switch in my NB8A( BIG thanks to Fattima  ) and still my drivers side window will refuse to go down :?

Ive checked the main window use and that is fine... My Question is that: Is there any other fuse appart from the main fuse that protects the window circuit or are there any relays that could have burnt out :?:

When my switch decided to retire the switch was stuck in the up position for a while and is there any chance this could lead to the motor to burn out :?:

So before i change the motor over i want to make sure that its the motor thats toast and nothing else :D Whats the best way to test the motor to see if its buggered also :?:

Sorry about all the Q's but ive never had this before on any of my MX's so keen to know and of corse work out whats wrong with my drivers side window :D

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated :D

Cheers,Mark

Can't help with the fuses, but check them all. If any are blown, that can't be a good thing, right?! :D

Disconnect the window leads, pull out your battery and connect the window motor directly to the battery. Reverse the polarity to change the winding direction.

The switches might need cleaning up of the contacts. Try pulling it out, disassembling and using wet&dry on the contacts to remove oxidation. You can avoid trial & error by testing resistances with a multimeter.

at a guess if you have power to the motor then it is fair bet the motor is a player. I had some involvement with window motor for the Capri and that motor could be disassembled pretty easily and a common fault was poor connection from the fingers to the pick up plate. Not sure how easy it is to take out and be very careful on testing in situ.
