FM bump stops- which way up

Postby Noddycar » Sat Oct 02, 2010 6:54 pm

Hello all

Waiting for a response from Flyin Miata, but being the weekend..... Does anyone know which way goes up on the FM bump stops? Logic dictates the wider end goes down, but...... Also, do you cut the old dust boot off the old bump stops, or is the bump stop OK on its own?

Thanks.

Thanks Sliq

After fitting one on to the shock as a test, I realised it SHOULD be that way, as it seems designed to slide over the top spacer/stopper, whereas it might otherwise wedge onto the spacer... It's nice to have it confirmed, so I will now be able to refit the shocks with confidence. I was otherwise going to wait until the FM guys returned to work on Monday, which would have meant another week of the car sitting on stands...

After battling to get the shocks off, realised that I had missed the crucial step of disconnected the upper ball joint, so it would have been a lot easier otherwise  . I better duck out tomorrow and buy a ball joint tool!

Thanks again

Yes, I had read that was an option to the special tool.... Not sure where to hit it, so I was a bit concerned about doing damage to the ball joint if I just whack it.
