Hammer: It is indeed the vinyl stuff. E2Modz in Sydney did it. It really is great stuff, and doesn't look as dubious as some of the cheaper stuff floating around.

Also... it's worse than a milo tin. I have a Mugen exhaust on there! Still waiting for VTEC to kick in though.

So, haven't updated in a while. Will have more photos up next week, and the girl goes in for a bit of a freshen up this week. Bushes, timing belt, clutch, etc. etc. etc.

Just so I can torture everyone I thought I'd put up a wonderful new vehicle on the market I created at work whilst really bored the other day. If you didn't already hate me, you now will. Please note my awesome paint skillz.

That's pretty cool! I always wanted to go to the moon.

Also, removalist pics! I completely forgot to put these up.

Basically, I bought a king size bed a while back. A giant hardwood framed job. It was only a few streets away (back streets no less) so I wasn't really worried about being pulled over by cops for the... uh... load. It got us some looks from people on the side of the road though. :-D

Proof you can carry pretty much anything on a mex.

For the record, the fat pig Mondeo wasn't able to carry it.

so we told the lady "hang on, we'll get the other car, it should be big enough"


she practically died with laughter when we showed up in a little red NA...

NOW I see one advantage of that roll bar vs my twin hoop roll bar - it doubles as a roof rack!

Cruising with a surfboard on top would turn a few heads.

i do that beach trip several times a week like that :)

Is that real carbon fiber or is it just a wrap? If it's adhesive, I'm actually a little interested in doing that myself now! I need carbon stuff!!!!!!!!!

Hi all,

Long time since I've really been on the forums. Mainly due to work and being a hermit! At least I now have a working laptop at home, so can access the forum more frequently. :mrgreen: Yes... I'm back. And will get to all the mounting PMs I didn't see earlier soon.

A lot has happened in the past few months and I'm now going to be a bit forgetful... I started doing a refurb on Seniorita a few months back. All those nasty big jobs that no-one likes to do... but when she's coming up to 21 it's necessary.

As I'm without a garage and the weather was worse than horrible those few months back there, I decided to book her into Chasers Eastside division and take the lazy option. Get them to do all the nasty work. Manny has looked after me well, and I have to say for the price I paid, there was no way I'd do this stuff on a cold and wet driveway. Yup... soft.

The list of things they were meant to do:

Bushes (I put in Energy Suspension bushes)
Clutch (just the OEM Exedy replacement)
Timing Belt and water pump (OEM stuff again. There's not really any point in upgrading these bits)

And... other things I have forgotten...

It has all gone well. We actually only did the main bushes in the end to save on time and money. If I get really adventurous (and need to punish myself for something) in the next few months I'll do the rest.

That was the bulk of the refurb, as I've changed most other items as required or as I've wanted something to do in the past 2 years.

The Energy Suspension bushes work a treat. I'll just have to remember to grease them every year, but it shouldn't be too bad of a job now that they've had their first replacement.

That was a few months back. The car felt completely different when I got it back... and I had one last thing to do...

Shocks. AGAIN. :-D

This time, instead of putting in some second hand freebies off the forum, I actually splashed out and bought new shocks. Nothing exciting, just the budget KYB ones that James at MX5 Centre sells.

I put them in with my Eibachs on the following Saturday night and all went fine. However... I actually prefer the stock height. I know it looks a lot better lowered, however I also like being able to drive wherever without fearing I'm going to tear something off. I got used to being able to do drive across paddocks, over gutters etc... which was possible but annoyingly precarious at the height I was at when low.

So on the following Wednesday afternoon I put her back up to stock height with some OEM springs I had lying around.

Battery

The next task I had was to upgrade the battery. It might sound odd to 'upgrade' my battery, however I had a Supercharge one in there from when I could put an OEM one there due to too many shopping trips. :mrgreen:

The Supercharge has worked fine, don't get me wrong. The surface rust in my boot did not work fine however.

SO I had two jobs to do. De-rust the boot, and get a better battery in there.

I'd been researching de-rusting options for a while. It was only surface rust, but bad enough that I needed to take serious action to prevent further damage. I decided to go with the POR15 paint system, in gloss black.

This paint is great. Very easy to apply and looks damn good afterwards. If anyone else wants to do their boot, I recommend just buying the starter kit, and 100mls of paint in your colour choice. You will have more than enough left over. I'm actually going to get some more and do the cabin at some point in the future when we have a dry spell and I don't need to drive anywhere for a couple of days.

I'll do a write-up on the process later, with pics.

So that has stopped the rust and given the boot a freshen up.

For the battery, I went with the Odyssey and bought a specially manufactured clamp from these guys: http://www.extremebatteries.com.au/a/Battery-Hold-Downs

I was thinking I may have just had water leaking in the boot creating rust, however after having the Odyssey set-up for a good 3 or so months now, it was definitely the old 'wrong' battery causing this. The Odyssey has been great, and works out cheaper than an OEM battery, even with the spanky-pants clamp.

I promise I'll take some pics later folks.
