Corner Weighting

Finally got around to corner weighting my car last night. Topped the fuel up to half a tank, set the tyre pressures to 30psi all round and put 70kg of ballast into the drivers seat and footwell.

The car was actually pretty good in terms of cross weights, with an initial reading of 51% LF/RR and 49% RF/LR. The big surprise for me was the total weight of 1036kg including driver and half a tank of fuel (essentially 966kg without driver). The only other time I'd had it on the scales was at it's first race meeting just over 12 months ago and it weighed in at just on 1000kg without driver and half a tank of fuel, so I'd managed to take 34kg out of the car somehow. I had removed a few things and installed lightened flywheel etc but never thought it would be near that amount. I'm wondering how accurate the scales at Morgan Park are?

Anyway, after spending an hour tweaking the car we actually ended up pretty close to the original reading with cross weight percentages of 50.9% LF/RR and 49.1% RF/LR. We could have got it a bit closer to 50/50, but it would have meant changing the ride heights too much. Eventually I will buy a lighter battery to replace the existing battery and move it to the passengers side of the boot. This should give me a total weight of about 960kg without driver and very close to 50/50 cross weights.

The left/right split is really interesting too, isn't it? Should we all stay off anti-clockwise tracks?

To be expected with 70kg in the drivers seat I guess :D

Just lucky that there aren't too many anti clockwise tracks in Australia, just Eastern Creek and PI.

And Sandown, though it certainly isn't in the best circuits list in Oz !
