Nice!
Spoke to them last weekend and checked the cars out. They have me booked in, time to start stripping the car

I talked to them about doing your cage. If anyone else is intersted now is a good time as they are all set up for doing mx5's as the have had a few in there in the last fortnight. Tell them i sent you and they will give you a good price.

Meridian motorsport did them. They are great guys, very friendly and able to work out what we need with us. So the cage is a combination of both our ideas.

Re: The carbon fibre time attack/superlap MX5 NB twins blog
I have bought the car home to work on it here. That way i can do little bits when the baby is asleep. And i started on the widebody and when i went in to the shop both guards flares where knocked off (he likes to park cars close together).
Pic of when i got it home.
I stripped the car further, painted the cage. Decided i didn't like the colour, so i bought the gt3 rs orange colour. I will be painting it again as well as the engine bay. So the car will have mostly black c.f panels and highlights of bright orange, with a dark grey interior. (like the gt3 rs)
I also got me some dry ice and removed the sound deadening. While i was at it i removed all the seam sealer too.

Re: The carbon fibre time attack/superlap MX5 NB twins blog
I cut out a little bit of the boot floor and some metal that went behind the 1/4 panels as well as under the panel in front of the boot and the inner panel that the boot latch goes onto. All up i managed to pull about 35kg's from the car from when i first stripped it. That includes more bolts not needed, the a.b.s and wiper too. I cut off all bolts and brackets i don't need. I am trying to offset the 50 - 60kg's from the cage.
Engine bay prepped and ready for paint. I have to get the engine bay painted so i can put the driveline in as i need the floor space to make some hardtops.

Painted the engine bay, but for some reason the pics come out looking pink. The colour is actually bright orange.

How do you like the hat on it? I lost the original and used all my talent to make a replacement from some left over alloy.

Any concerns with losing metal from the back of the car in case of an accident (less crumple zone)?

Well i am protected by the cage, and you can't build a car and worry about damaging it in an accident. You would end up with a heavy car too.
Painted the cage today. Just have to paint the interior, and then i can assemble it.

Lookin good.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Cheers.
I painted the inside. What do you think cams would make of the paper rollcage. The masking took a lot longer than i thought.
