Cold start issue - dies after crank but ok warmed up

Postby Insurgence » Mon Jun 28, 2010 10:17 pm

Hi Guys,

Strange problem:

After starting car, usually idle is quite high due to cold engine (normal operation).

Lately the revs have remained low despite cold engine start. I thought nothing of it.

This morning car engine would stop after successful cranking. If gas is applied, engine remains on. Engine appears to operate normally after a few seconds of warming up.

Ideas?
Perhaps temperature sensor ???

Thank you in advance.

Maybe coolant temp sensor or blocked Idle thingy cutting air. Maybe try start it and then pull the plugs and see if they have any unburned fuel on them?. Vacuum leak maybe?. Just throwing out ideas :).

Seems to me like a possible faulty coolant temp sensor?

If you have a spare 30 or so bucks that you dont mind possibly wasting (if it doesnt correct the problem). Order a new coolant temperature sensor from bursons or something, it is located at the back of the head up the top, it should be square or triangle depending on the car. Changing it in theory could fix the problem, but then again i dont know exactly what the problem is..

Goodluck.

Hi i have the same issue but mine seems to be slightly worse. It runs like a bag of crap and cuts out until its warm then runs fine. I just made a DIY ecu fault code checker and its telling me the oxygen sensor is out, haven't fixed it yet but this could also be your issue.

Sounds like your idle speed air control valve.

When you load up your power steering or with the air conditioning on do you find the revs drop?
