Yes, I am giving it a little more stick now .
Geoff's ride convinced me to do some serious work on the suspension and safety of the car, as his rides a lot smoother than mine. I will probably put it into a decent suspension shop on the southside of Brisvegas to get an opinion on what can be done. After I have done that, I will get the rollbar fitted and maybe look at some minor stiffening of the body.

I would guess that smooth ride is probably one that is standard. Performance suspension mods can easily lead to a harder and less compromising ride. An older car can suffer merely because of worn out shockers.

Yes, I think age is telling on mine......It is a bit noisy down below, as well as a bit bumpy. I was not sure whether it was possibly bushes or shocks (or something else).
I might put a post into the wheels and suspension area to get a recommendation on decent replacements.... Unfortunately, most of what I have read in that forum seems to be pushing more towards sports oriented handling. I think even with a more standard set-up, this car will handle better around corners etc than I will ever need it to.
I drove it to work today, as I had a countr visit to a customer. My teeth were rattling all the way out on the back roads!

Troy, I forgot to tell you that Fulcrum do a free suspension check. Better than the pedders one which I believe isn't free.
As for what to get, for bushes most ppl use superpro. They seem reasonable if you do it yourself and they will last you much longer than stock. One of our sponsors is having sale viewtopic.php?f=82&t=42475
I have Energy suspension from 949 Racing which are slightly cheaper than superpros and also easier to install due to their design.
As for shockies, your better off buying something thats adjustable. Like mine you can dial it down all the way and it will feel like stock but better Then on spirited drives you can dial it up for cornering goodness You may not need it but its good to have it just in case of an emergency. Most of us I'd say would drive our cars 7/10ths on spirited drives but its the 3/10ths you'd want there for security/safety in case of unexpected situations.

You're welcome to have a drive of my car sometime to try out a different suspension setup.
I have Koni Yellow shocks and lowering springs. I think it handles and rides quite nicely.
The Koni's are adjustable for height and dampening so it gives you a range of options to work with. Koni's are a quality brand and not overly expensive for what they are.

Hi all, i am a 'new guy' to the forum, but a long time MX5 fan having owned three NAs to date. My current car of which i have only had around 1 year is purely a club car and i am about to give it a service after it being hidden away for most of winter. Thought i would 'lash out' and get new plugs and leads as well as a general oil change and tune. Just like your recommendations on oils (gearbox diff) / plugs / leads etc.
The car is an '89 NA6, with extractors, big exhaust and cold air intake (through firewall), i hadn't even got around to doing the 14 degree timing 'tweek' yet either so that will be on the agenda also. Thanks guys.....
