MX5's & Rust

Postby Reddie to cruise » Fri Aug 13, 2010 7:41 pm

Hi all been a while missing having an MX5 heaps, so I am going to look at 1 this weekend that has caught my eye. Dont ever remember seeing an MX with rust , do they get it & where is the best place to look for it. Going to look at an NA. I know NB's are getting very cheap but I love the older car feel of the NA's.

Possible locations
In the boot if they have fitted a lead acid battery
On the parcel shelf if the drains have been blocked
Inside the front guards if the crap is not cleaned out
The sills if the drains are blocked
2011 NC2 PRHT SE in Dolphin Grey
2001 NB8B in Crystal Blue - Sold :(

another Clubman (red as opposed to the white one above) recently at a Sydney dealer had rust on on its rear shelf.

under the battery tray & surrounds can also be due to the NA8 power aeriel drain pipe coming adrift from its floor drain hole.

doors also frequently fill up with water.

From the ones I looked at in the UK the UK spec NAs were absolute rot boxes, The sills can go anywhere, Windscreen frames go pretty bad as do all 4 wheel arches, Around the seatbelt mounts on the floor, also on the leading edge of the floor pan,
