Faded plastic panels need respray

Postby emx005 » Fri Aug 06, 2010 2:36 pm

Hey guys,

Hoping for some recommendations.

Pics and a build thread coming soon but my Red NA6 has the all too common plastic fade. Rear panel, mirrors, roof. I'm after recommendations of someone in Sydney who can respray these parts. I've gotten some local quotes but have never had to get a car resprayed or repaired so I'm unaware of the quality of their work.

Cheers!

Hi !

As long as the paint work isn't peeling or cracked I'd first being going out and buying some Meguiars Ultimate Compound and trying that. I used it on my daily driver 89 Celica that was badly faded and it came up like new, quite remarkable really ! If the surface feels rough when you slide you hand across it when it's wet use a clay bar first (available from Meguiars, Bowdens Own or Mothers) then the Ultimate Compound, then a polish such as Meguiars Colour X. All up would cost about $100 and you'll have a enough to keep you going for a couple of years.

Good quality painting is a minimum of $300 a panel. Not sure how much extra they'd charge for the mirrors.
My little 'Toy' thinks she's actually a Ferrari !!

To give an idea regarding pricing on respraying the mirrors - my mirrors cost $80 to get resprayed.
