Advice for Buying a Megasquirt

Postby Astiolo » Wed Jul 28, 2010 3:32 pm

I'm planning on adding a supercharger eventually and thought the first step would be a decent ECU, I want to keep everything as cheap as possible and after doing some research the Megasquirt seems to be the best option. I have no problems with soldering so making it wont be a problem.

What I would like to know is where people got theirs or where they reccomend. As well as any extras I should be getting such as sensors or whatever for a supercharger.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have been extremely happy with my DIYPNP.

Thanks I found that site before but wasn't sure what exactly the difference was between the regular diy kit and the diypnp. It says its based on the microsquirt module but I thought there was no diy kit for that, is that part preassembled? Also which one did you get for the mx5?

I would like to know if I need any extensions/sensors for the purpose of a supercharged 1.6 engine so I can get everything at once.

I bought my S/C as a complete kit from Saboteur [one of the board mods] It's a great kit with a number of nice touches, here's the list
Jackson Racing M45 supercharger kit, plus full standalone plug and play ECU (MSPNP). Other bits include:
• Jackson Racing BBK "Big Boost Kit" crank overlay pulley (gives 10psi)
• Innovate LC-1 wideband oxygen sensor and controller
• 4x Denso 330cc injectors with new O rings (swap straight in)
• Bosch throttle position sensor (bolts onto standard throttle body without modification)
• Plug and play harness for TPS
• Plug and play harness for air intake temp sensor
• fully programmable ECU comes with two 4 bar map sensors (one for barometric correction, good for mountain runs) and has been modified by the manufacturer for the Bosch TPS. Everything is tuned and ready to go but it is still under warranty if you need support. The ECU plugs into the standard Mazda loom and nothing has to be cut or modified. The ECU has wideband O2 feedback, datalogging with autotune, launch control, flat shift and heaps of other features.

I have sacrificed a standard TPS to create the plug and play harness, so to fit this kit you won't have to cut any wires or do anything irreversible to your car at all. Everything has been done properly, no "band aid" solutions have been used.

I have been doing some more research and I am thinking about the MS-II DIY kit and I believe what I need to get with it is:

-Tuning Cable
-Pullup Resistors 'ModKit'
-MegaSquirt Wiring Bundle
-MSPNP IAT Sensor Kit (to be able to remove the AFM)
-MegaSquirt Stimulator

If anyone knows of something else I should be getting with it the advice would be appreciated. As far as I can tell I don't need to get anything extra for supercharging it.

Also with the stimulator I am hoping that someone who has built one before has one lying around which they could lend/sell me so I could save a bit of money there. Anyone in Adelaide have one they are willing to lend out?

I have one of the original ones, plus an AC to DC plug pack to power it. You can have it and a straight through DB9 cable for 6 pack beer money.

If Astiolo doesn't want to take you up on your offer, I certainly will. I'm looking at building an MSII soon.

Buy mine and change the plugs if you don't have a 93-95 NA8. Simple!

I opted to just buy the mspnp, was quick and simple and reduced the chance of something going wrong... I brought it with the boost solenoid and IAT - works a treat! Just need to refine cold start further.
