ok, reading the Modification standards again, I've found something that I think needs clarification.

the width of any replacement rim must not be:

- more than 25mm greater than the widest wheel specified by the vehicle manufacturer for that model or vehicle series

now, and NB8A had maximum 6" wide wheels from the factory - therefore Max 7"
the NB8B had 7" - therefore max 8"
the SE had 8" maybe? - therefore max 9"
so, does Vicroads class facelifts and minor changes (ie: NB8A to NB8B) as a new "Vehicle series" ?


I understand that anything said here is just opinion, and I'll ring Vicroad when I get a chance to get proper clarification.
Just curious to hear how other people percieve the law.

Pretty sure the NB8A glossy brochure says (or just shows?) 16x7's as options (dealer fitted I believe - I think these were the NB8B wheels?), so you could possibly go to 8's. Can't check, as I will not be home till Sunday evening.

I was always under the impression that it was about the tyre placard. Max specified on that & you can add 1" to that in width.
you can then get an engineer to certify a wider wheel. They will then put another tyre plaque on the car to specify the new size.

Just curious to hear how other people percieve the law.

+25mm wider than the widest wheel option offered by Mazda for any of the NB model range.

So if the NB8B has 6.5" wide (and if is the widest offered by mazda), then 7.5" is the widest you can go in VIC.

Or look at you tyre placard, at the widest rim on it. add 1". (Although sometimes there may be other options on there not listed on it).

The SE wheels are 17x7 so maybe an 8 is legal on an NB?
