Does NB8As have a fuel warning light?
About 2 months ago, I got myself into the embarrassing situation of stopping in the middle of the street due to a lack of fuel...
The inconvenience of asking a mate of mine to rescue me aside, that incident prompted me to the idea that my fuel warning light is either faulty OR the car doesn't have a fuel warning light at all.
Given that I'm taking the car to Mania for a service tomorrow, I just want to leverage off the communal knowledge to see whether I'm imagining something that wasn't there to begin with or it is something that needs to be fixed.
Thanks guys

They only have a gauge, and when it reads E, it's time to fill up!
I don't know about the guages in your cars, but when my needle points directly to E, the engine starts spluttering within a few minutes.
Craig knows all about that!

I agree with Benny, when it shows empty, fill it up.
Or you can calculate fuel used verses distance travelled and come up with a projected range.
When mine points to E, I know I still have about 8 litres to empty dependent on a range of variables which are all too hard for my brain cells to calculate.
Easier to fill it up before it points to E.

It was added to the 2002 model year MX5 (along with automatic number plate lights that come on when you open to the boot, to illuminate the interior, and ODBII engine management)
Supreme Blue NB8B, 1:16.98 at Wakefield when stock, but it's not stock any more...

My SP doesn't have a low fuel warning light.
I think they were on NB8C's and not NB8B's.

I think most SP's were 2001 model year cars. The boot light / low fuel light was definitely introduced before the NB8C (which had the thicker A-pillar padding, windblocker mounted speakers, new design 16 in wheels and satin trim around the centre console)

Thanks for the answers guys.
I'll just need to make sure I top up everytime i see a petrol station during long trips then (or whenever the needle is close to halfway cause you'll never know how far the next one is!)

EVERY time I fill up, I zero the trip meters. I know how much fuel goes in, for how many kms. I can, and regularly do, run my tank down to the last litre or two with confidence, providing I do not mix the city and touring mileage too much, because then the maths get too much for my poor head . Mind you, the co-driver gets pretty nervous, but she hasn't had to walk yet. Yet ....

Re: Does NB8As have a fuel warning light?
just out of curiousity, what type of mileage do people get from their nb8a and their type of driving?
also wondering how much fuel people measure to be in the tank when the needle hits E (calculated from filling up on E at the servo)

I tend to do 400km in mine.
that's about 250km highway, 150km in traffic.
however, I don't drive with economy in mind.

for the record... i get about 450km on full tank till the needle reads nearly empty.. i could probably get another 30km out of it until it stops by the side of the road.. driving is 'motivated'

Well, I have a 03/02 SP which has the boot lights, but no FWL, well, at least not on the instrument cluster:
Snow White: Torsen 3.9 LSD, A/Sway Bars, R/Bar Plus Clear Reflectors!
