The bit in that thread that I remember just said that some Mazda MAFs were crap when confronted with back pulses from bigger cams. That's one reason why I started searching for better makes.

There's an interesting alternative that presents itself now, Fatty. Seeing that my whole intake system is now just a bundle of cable ties, electrical tape and gaff tape it's really no problem to tape an NA6 AFM in front of the Pulsar MAF. I can log both simultaneously while I run the ECU off the MAF. With them both sucking exactly the same volume of air that would give me a translation table for an AFM to a freely available MAF. You've got the DFA, I'm sure you can figure out the next steps.

Or alternatively you can do it in the shed with a leaf blower, a multimeter and tandem Nokia phone chargers .....

yeah so is the maf you've got one of the ones that is sh*t at dealing with back pulses, or not?

i suppose my main concern would still be about how the maf output is affected by intake temperature variations. i just don't see how the b6 ecu would be able to deal with this at all. even just a few millivolts difference at different air temps could spell disaster at the top end of the range. still, if you want me to mail my afm up to you it'd be an interesting experiment. i suppose i could do without my car for a week or so, i have the shitbox (amanda's 323) to drive around in in the meantime

I wouldn't mail it. Postal service is shyte up here. Maybe rustle up a spare good AFM before Winton? As far as back pulses go, I dunno. All the Nissan MAFs are the same pattern, they just vary the size. I couldn't find any complaints on any of the Nissan fora.
